NOAA's Ocean Exploration Cooperative Institute, hosted out of the University of Rhode Island, is pleased to announce its
4th annual Blue Economy Career Exploration Fair (virtual via Zoom). This free event aims to connect community college, undergraduate, and graduate students, as well as other stakeholders, with individuals across various Blue Economy
(BE) sectors (Defense, Marine Trades, Aquaculture, Fisheries, Tourism and Recreation, Ports and Shipping, Marine Policy, etc), and raise awareness about the different career opportunities available and the diverse skills required for these positions.
By the event's end, we hope students may see a career for themselves in a BE field that they otherwise may not have considered and/or thought their interests and skills were not applicable.
After initial introductions, we will host moderated "speed dating" sessions (in Zoom breakout rooms) with sector representatives, where students can meet with different reps in small groups for 12-15 min; after a set time, the groups switch, until all of the
groups have rotated and spoken with each representative.
Registration is required. The event will take place across two virtual events, one on Tuesday February 25th, and the other on Thursday, February 27th, 2025. Each online event will last approximately 2.5 hours (1-3:30pm ET) and will feature different BE sector representatives. Participants are encouraged to register for both sessions if they can, so that they can network across all BE sectors. NEW this year, we will let participants rank panelists so that individuals can pre-select the first 2-3 BE representatives they connect with; however, all career fair participants are required to connect with all BE panelists in each session.
Please distribute this opportunity with students and/or early career scientists engaged with your programs and/or share this within your networks. A flyer (PDF) with necessary links and details is also attached.
If you have any questions, please be in touch (holly...@uri.edu). Please note- participants do not need to bring resumes or anything like that- this really is an informational type of job fair experience, and more about career awareness and conversation.
Have a great weekend!
