Dear City of Kirkland Council Members,
It is with high regard for you and your ability in representing the interests of the community, that I wish to bring to your attention my opposition to PSE Route#1 through the Kirkland North Rose Hill neighborhood.
I present below multiple reasons for why route #1
does not make socio-economic sense for PSE to follow. I hope that you will do your best, once convinced, to contact PSE project manager Mr Barry Lombard (
barry....@pse.com) on all our behalf (cc:line) to oppose route #1.
Here are my reasons for opposing route #1 (also captured in the email I sent Mr Barry Lombard on 16th June 2012, I have not received a response yet):
[Begin: letter I wrote to Mr Barry Lombard]
I am extremely concerned about the proposed alternative #1 to lay high voltage line along 124th ave ne because of the following reasons:
-
124th ave ne is very densely populated and the streets are replete with kids, strollers, joggers and cyclists. Laying down these lines will not only be a huge eye-sore but will disrupt thriving social activity along the corridor. Alternative 3 seems to be the least densely populated and should be made the choice.
- Property prices in this corridor have dropped like a rock over the last 4-5 years, barely starting to stabilize this year. These lines will remove the floor for these home owners and will cause us to go further under water.
- Kids park in the neighborhood already has a high voltage line going above it. These new lines will add to the mess across the street.
I hope you understand that alternative #1 may be the worst option from a social impact perspective. It may be the shortest path to lay the lines but the social impact will have much larger economic externality associated with it which the residents will demand Puget Sound Energy to internalize. As such, this might not even make economic sense to PSE.
[End: letter I wrote to Mr Barry Lombard]
Thanks to all of you, and I hope you will do your best to prevent further erosion of our neighborhood value, and potential slew of lawsuits that may follow due to accidents as the laying down the lines affect our lives and businesses in terrible ways. That expense will be much higher to the larger community & economy than PSE’s cost of laying down the lines in the least populated areas.
I am happy to meet in person, if needed
Best regards,
Suyash Sinha
