Another attempt at a Harvard Square-NYC bus line

subchat.com, is attempting to start up a Harvard Square-NYC bus line.

Several companies have tried to do so in the past, but have been shut
down by the Cambridge License Commission, despite the fact that state
law prohibits cities and towns from requiring jitney licenses for
interstate servce.

I also see that they're starting some other new services in November:
Boston-New Haven-Philadelphia, Philadelphia-Baltimore-DC, and NYC-

This is great news. New Haven currently has no discount bus service,
and Greyhound has high fares, infrequent schedules, and lots of local
stops on New Haven trips.

The NYT did a comprehensive report on discount bus services from NYC
outward and found many problems in safety and reliability.
I know a student at Yale. He bought early and got a good deal on
Amtrak tickets to come home. Far better alternative.
For a college kid looking to save money, if Amtrak isn't an option,
I'd recommend MNRR, the subway, and NJT over the bus. It's a bit
arduous but not bad for a college kid. (Heck, I do it).

So you keep repeating. Maybe if you provided a cite, we could read
the report, and see how long ago they did the analysis, what services
they're talking about, and what problems they found.
There are lots of discount bus services. Some are run by the same
companies that run non-discount buses. Some have changed their
operations over the years. Some didn't even exist at the time you
first started posting about this theoretical NYT report.

Thanks to Connecticut boat-owning NIMBYs who got drawbridge closing
restrictions imposed on the railroad, and government policies which
prevent the expansion of service, Amtrak is entirely unable to meet
travel demand on busy days, despite their exorbitant prices.

That would take hours and hours to get to Philadelphia, and it doesn't
help people going to Boston.
And none of this addresses the issue in my original post: that local
governments are overstepping their authority under state and federal
law, and categorically banning all intercity bus services within their
borders.

And from the other direction... there's the back door sneak
from Philly using SEPTA and NJ Transit.
They even used it when the Philly "Cold Case" detectives
had to interview someone in NYC.
(At which point Scotty [a] said it was absurdly long,
and coming back he wanted to ride Acella...)

Is it really a sneak? Both agencies list the connection on
their schedules.

Id like to see this report. Ive taken boltbus, megabus and nyc2dc and
had great experiences every time.
Was this report about the chinatown buses? Because even they have
stepped up their game since the other companies entered the scene.
4 years ago your only option was Fung Wah and their buses caught fire.
Today you have many better choices.
Amtrak is really for business travel only, when the company picks up
the tab.
