On the Friday after Thanksgiving at about 4pm, I visit a relative at
Brigham and Women's Hospital. On Brookline Avenue, in the first block
north of Jamaicaway, there are about 12 spaces of which only one is
vacant. I park but notice that the meter is colored red. I look at
the meter and there's a sticker, "NO STANDING 7am-9:30am". That makes
sense as I'm on the inbound side of Brookline Avenue and parking would
be restricted during the morning rush hour.
I put in enough quarters for an hour and visit my relative. I'm
probably there a bit longer than an hour. When I return, there's a
ticket on my car. Darn, I guess I was there longer than an hour. It
was 5:23pm and the ticket was issued at 4:52 pm. Not until I get home
do I notice that the fine is $75 and the offense was parking in a no-
stopping zone.
The next day, I return to the scene of the crime to photograph the
sticker. It is only then that I notice a sign at the end of the block
that states that NO_STANDING is both 7am-9:30am and also 4pm to 6pm.
Just about all the parking meters on the block have a sticker that
states, "NO STANDING, 7AM-9:30AM" None of the meters mention the
afternoon rush hour.
If justice and sanity prevails in the courtroom, so should you. Be
prepared with lots of pictures, especially showing the terms of the
parking meter you parked at, any parking regulation signs, and possibly
other meters.
