Announcement of the 38th Meeting
Tuesday, March 13, 2007

A Visit to the Boston University Judson B. Coit Observatory
Hosted by Professor Michael Mendillo
Department of Astronomy, Boston University

On Tuesday, March 13th, we will hold the thirty-eighth meeting of the
New England Section of ION at Boston University. The meeting will
include a short business meeting and a presentation by Boston
University (BU) Astronomy Professor Michael Mendillo. We will then
ascend to the Judson B. Coit Observatory to view the night sky through
telescopes and to learn some astronomy as well.

Note that attendance at this meeting is not restricted to ION members.
Family members and colleagues with interest in this unique opportunity
are cordially invited. We will keep our business meeting short to
allow ample time for Professor Mendillo's presentation and the
observatory activities. Please dress accordingly; the observatory is
on the roof top.

The date of this activity was chosen based on predicted favorable
visibility of the night sky. However clouds, haze or rain can limit or
prohibit visibility. If visibility is prohibited, Professor Mendillo
will provide a longer presentation on a topic of astronomical interest
to our membership. Professor Mendillo is a very knowledgeable and
entertaining speaker. He has taught celestial navigation courses at BU
and is a collector of antique navigation tools.

The meeting will be held at the BU College of Arts and Sciences (CAS)
building at 725 Commonwealth Avenue in Boston. Details on room number
and parking will be sent at a later date. We will begin with an
optional deli or pizza dinner at 6:30PM. The cost for the dinner will
be $5/per person and is payable at the meeting. In order for us to
plan for the meeting and catering requirements, please inform us of
your intention to attend the meeting and participate in the optional
dinner by replying to Susan Delay (de...@bc.edu; 617-552-8549) by
March 8th, 2007.

We hope that you will join us at Boston University for this unique and
exclusive use of the Coit Observatory. It will give us a glimpse of
the night sky that is the basis of celestial navigation.
