We are currently engaged in a project that is seeking a full time Senior
Data Modeler. The Senior Data Modeler provides leadership and expertise for
the modeling of information assets in support of the company's overall
Enterprise Information Management vision. The individual will assist the
organization in the understanding of its information needs across the
enterprise, and develops the appropriate data models (conceptual, physical
and logical) and processes required to deploy solutions that best meet
business objectives.
The Senior Data Modeler will be responsible for development of project-level
data models for applications under development, as well as creating and
maintaining the related enterprise models. The individual provides direction
and expertise to project teams, by gathering data requirements through
facilitated sessions or Use Cases, and developing and implementing quality
data models based on those requirements. The modeler is accountable for the
identification and resolution of information flow conflicts and content
issues, and the transformation of business requirements into logical data
models.
The individual will also be responsible for metadata and its management, and
is responsible for the identification of data most valuable to the
enterprise, the capture and integration of this data, and the development of
the correlating data models based on EIM standards and best practices. The
Sr. Data Modeler must have working knowledge in Star Schema Database design
and architecture, including demonstrated deployment of structured
methodologies in technical/data design
In addition, the Senior Data Modeler will be responsible for:
~Use dimensional and/or relational modeling to design solutions that will
satisfy user requirements.
~Create and maintain database, data warehouse, and enterprise data resource
models.
~Ensure databases are appropriately defined, implemented and managed.
~Work closely with the users, business analysts, developers and the DBAs to
ensure effective and accurate deployment of database solutions.
~Engage in multiple project assignments, manage and negotiate work load with
project managers, and escalate issues as necessary to management.
~Develop complex conceptual, logical and physical data models for ODS, Data
Mart and Data Warehouses.
~Document data definitions, business rules, entities, attributes, and
relationships utilizing standard methodologies and tools.
~Identify business rules and enforce them in the database.
~Contribute to system development and deployment activities by ensuring that
the data architectural concerns are addressed.
~Prepare comprehensive data dictionaries and other supporting documentation
~Prepare and maintain relationship diagrams for the EIM environment, and
each application system/project.
~Participate in the development of data and database-related standards and
processes to improve the technological effectiveness of the organization.
~Develop detailed data architectures and data management policies and
standards to address emerging business needs and requirements.
~Define, publish and monitor data standards and data naming conventions.
~Be responsible for data validation and data cleansing operations.
~Perform impact analysis on data as required
~Apply Rapid Application Development (RAD) techniques to gather information
requirements
~Analyze project business requirements, develop enterprise-level data models
and identify data sharing opportunities
~Develop, integrate, manage and promote enterprise-level data models, data
standards and data metrics.
~Assist the DBAs in the creation of physical database models.
~Construct, maintain and document data models using the Erwin data modeling
tool.
~Develop data administration policies, procedures and standards.
~Support development of repository administration policies and procedures.
The appropriate individual must have proven business and systems analysis
skills and be proficient in data warehousing/information management
methodologies and technologies. Candidates must have hands-on experience
developing databases, data warehouses, data marts, etc., and be
knowledgeable in star schemas/dimensional models and implementations.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
~3-5 years experience in data modeling, design, and implementation
~3-5 years experience in Business Intelligence, Data Warehousing, and data
architecture
~4+ years DB2 and SQL Server development, implementation and support
experience
~Experience conducting discovery sessions, interviews, or the use of other
data gathering methods in a comprehensive enough manner to enable the proper
documentation of a logical database design
~Experience writing stored procedures
~Experience writing data migration, and distributed database management
processes
~Knowledge of Business Intelligence technologies and tools
~Advanced knowledge and experience in relational OLTP data modeling design
concepts and techniques
~Advanced understanding of and experience using the Erwin data modeling
suite
