Divx is a proprietary format not endorsed by the DVD Forum.
Divx is a migration path to a pay-per-view society.
Divx was created by Circuit City and a law firm.
Divx wants your credit card and phone line.
Divx is not DVD, it's an abomination.

Well, I put my order in last night. But I'm still not holding my breath. They
aren't scheduling installs yet -- at least that is what I was told. They said
they would be calling everyone within 15 days to set install times. They also
said they intend to prioritize installs based on how many people in a
particular area sign up for service (I assume they really mean how many people
on your street sign up). While I don't particularly like that concept
(especially since only half of my very short street isn't even wired) at least
it means they should be able to get more people up sooner.

I think it will be quite interesting to see if it works. If it does then I'll
give my thanks to the president of RCN who finally decided to do something
about this situation (delayed deployment).

While placing my order the other day, I asked Dave @ RCN why I
couldn't order cable internet through the usual 1-800 number.
He said there is a ten day period where his group gets to take
orders before the main number gets it.

I hope he's right. We'll know soon enough if the main number starts
taking orders. When they do, I think we'll see installations begin
soon after. One poster said his installation was set for the week of
the 9th, so maybe they are actually scheduling?

Anyway, Dave Iacomini said it was OK to mention here that he was
taking orders. Call him at 617-718-6831... if you mention my name
'pat vaudo' I think he'll give me a free pay-per-view.

I ordered the cable tv / cable modem bundle as follows:
Cable Internet Access $39.95
Cable TV $24.95
Cable TV box rental $ 3.95
Installation: Free
(if you already have an ethernet card)
Total $68.85

There might be some additional fees & taxes as with Time Warner.
'Standard Tier' is supposed to include 78 channels, plus 30 high
quality music channels. The only add-ons were premiums like HBO,
Cinemax, Disney and the like.

Internet service includes 1 email address and news server access.
He didn't know what brand of cable modem was used. He mentioned
voice services, but didn't give me the hard sell.

Thanks again to Joe 'Celtic' who put me in touch with Dave.
