I was VERY dissapointed to see Galaxy cut down on the access to their smtp
news server and found their WEB based alternative pretty lame!

However... over the last few days I have found their smtp server back to
normal. and I can access it when ever I want.

Anyone know the scoop?

My guess is one of two things happened: Galaxy finally realized how
stupid it was to restrict NNTP in the first place, and did a quick,
quiet reversal on their NNTP access restrictions or:

(More likely) So many customers got pissed off and left Galaxy that
there is hardly anybody left using the NNTP server now. Thus, you are
having no trouble accessing it even with the restrictions in
lace. -Dave (former Galaxy customer davec80)

Same here.

It looks like they switched NNTP servers but they're keeping it a
secret!!! I suggested they find a less expensive way to provide NNTP
service. Maybe they listened.

Don't speak too soon - I've been unable to connect to the NNTP server for two days now. Let's hope this is just a technical problem
rather than a re-reversal in policy!

Well someone else told me that they'd heard from Galaxy that Galaxy
would be terminating (instead of just severely restricting) NNPT news
access eventually. Looks like the end is here. Time to jump ship, if
you haven't already. -Dave
