We haven't been able to find good bacon in any of the local grocery
stores in our Cambridge neighborhood. Does anyone have suggestions
for picking up some thickly sliced relatively lean bacon?

The best lean thick sliced bacon is available in both regular, smoked, and
extra smoked versions at Karl's Sausage Kitchen on Rt 1 North in Saugus.
I buy it in bulk and slice it to my own thickness preference or they will
slice it anyway you want it. The price is about $4.00 per pound but it is
both lean and delicious.

Try North Country Smokehouse, Claremont, NH. They sell by mail, supposedly
some of their bacon was chosen for the Pope to eat on his recent visit to
the US.

I know this is far-fetched,b ut if you ever get out to the Yankee Candle
Factory in S. Deerfield there is a marvelous smoke house out there. If
interested, email me.

YOu mean, actually AT the candle factory? That's...weird. I've driven
by there a gazillion times, never been in, and always wondered why there
were so many cars in the parking lot (for CANDLES?). What do they have
besides bacon?

It is about 2 miles from the factory. Depending on whether you are coming up
North on route 5 or South, you make a turn and drive for 2 miles. It is a
small house type deal and they smoke all their own meats. Bacon, custom
sliced, kielbasa, sausage. Whenever I go to Yankee, I make a trip to the
smoke house (make sure you bring a cooler) and doulble up on stuff so I can
freeze some. If you want exact directions, emailme.

The name of the place is "Pekarski's'. It is on Rt.116 in S. Deerfield.
There is a sign for it on route 5.
