A person on another newsgroup stated that in New England, fish
chowder was served the next day. I have lived all but two years
of my life in New England and have never observed that in my
sphere of reference. I said I would ask here. Assuming you are
in or from New England, how was chowder served? Immediately after
it was cooked, or on a subsequent day? Thanks.

Immediately. I've not noted any improvement to chowder like you'd expect
from chili or lasagne by serving the next day.

hey, i'm back. lost usenet access due to dumbness on my part.

i agree. chowda is best served fresh. i have made many times (usually
broth based with no dairy) and kept leftovers with no improvement of the
flavors from the keeping. i just had some seafood chowda (in a lobster
bisque base!) i bought at the russell's farmer's market a week ago. it
was fine (sealed in tub) as is. tomato based dishes and stews are the
classic ones that seem to get better after a day or so. they have more
herbs/spices which are oil soluble (or in the acid of the tomatoes) and
so they blend more with time. chowda has few spices so nothing will
likely change with cold storage.

Thanks, Uri and Dan!

Russell's. Remind me of the loc. The only one I can think of is
in ?Wayland? or thereabouts.

yep. way out on rte 20 from 128. but i think they stopped their indoor
farmer's market for the season. the seafood chowda i got is mandy's. i
don't know where else to buy it but they were at a couple of farmer's
markets i went to this winter. google has some hits about markets that
sell it. one linked to a twitter page which doesn't seem too active.

http://twitter.com/#!/mandyschowdah

and that has a link to a web site under construction. so this is a small
outfit from the cape doing some pretty good chowda. as i said, it is
lobster bisque based (so it has a pale pink color) with clams, shrimp
and other seafood. worth finding but i wouldn't know where to look.

found the real web site:

http://www.wix.com/wickedchowdah/fishwives

still a skimpy web site. the russell's/wayland market site says they are
on for march 10, this sat. dunno if mandy's will have a booth there.
but this is worth seeking out if you like chowda

Interesting. I gather this is not to be found at the new Saturday
market at Mahoney's.

you have to call mahoney's or other markets to check. the chowda people
are not updating where they are it seems. also i think the russel's
market is on for next saturday. the chowda people need to be more on top
of marketing their very good product. as usual tastings at markets is
their best way to sell it.

Thanks again, Uri. Now I just need to remember to head out to a
market on Saturday. (I want to check them out anyway.) Is the
one at Mahoney's a zoo?

not a zoo at all. plenty of room to walk around, browse and sample. same
for russell's.
