Hi all,

I'm planning on riding to NYC from Boston. If anyone has done this ride, could you please share your route with me?  For reference, this was the route that was suggested to me.

I'm open to any routing suggestions/sections to avoid

Thanks,

Tomás

I did it once, many years ago. Because I was visiting a friend in New Haven, I did the last stretch on route 1 and I definitely don't recommend it.

I don't know NYC well enough to make specific recommendations, but I think finding a non-lethal crossing the Hudson is the hard part of planning a route. I would almost recommend going as far north as Poughkeepsie. You can tour the FDR house in Hyde Park while you're up there. The Hudson Valley is really quite nice.

Frankly speaking, I think the better plan for getting to NYC is to throw a Brompton on Amtrak.

perhaps relevant: the tappan zee now has a fully enclosed /separated bike lane.   (And the riding around bear mountain, etc. is very nice)

There are several routes available on ride with GPS.  You might also consider riding to New London, taking the ferry to Long Island and riding in from there.

I read that there are also bike lanes on the triboro. I have no idea how you'd get there though.

If you're going across the Hudson and back, the Bear Mountain bridge is positively pleasant.  It's a lot longer, but going west to Great Barrington and then following one of the routes south to the Palisades and then the GW Bridge would be very nice. Below, a route I could find. The New Jersey Randonneurs 600K goes up to Great Barrington.

The Empire State Trail will get you to NYC from various points along the Hudson Valley. Depending on how far south you hit it, there may or may not be any need to cross the Hudson (although the Walkway Over the Hudson is lovely at Poughkeepsie). How one gets West from Boston, I’ve got no idea. Good luck and safe travels.

I have done this ride once before and we went through Providence, Northeastern CT, to the ferry landing in New London, took the ferry across and then rode into Brooklyn from Long Island. The stretches of road in Long Island were boring but at least it was easy to navigate.

I lifted this route from a bikepacker and had intended to use it for the fleche this year.  Unfortunately other things got in the way. Feel free to take a look.
