I noticed that "America'sTest Kitchen" is running a show about making the iconic pastry!
I had one once in Paris.....

Julia Child featured a Paris-Brest on one of the French Chef shows.

A control on the Providence-Duxbury-Plymouth 200k, was French Impressions. They make them there

I've been eyeing a recipe in one of Jacques Pepin's cookbooks for a while. Just need to knuckle down and make it!

Perhaps this is blasphemy to say but I'm not too keen on the Paris Brest pastry to eat.

Maybe one day a "NERd" will be a treat found in high-end bakeries. It will be a sandwich consisting of two slices of wheat bread with peanut butter, nutella, and a pop-tart in the middle. (Traditionally served on a bed of fig newtons and salt & vinegar chips.)

Ha! I think the "NERd" you described would exist in the bakery case of a 24-hour gas station in a lesser known corner of New England.
I'm assuming the Pop-tart serves the practical purpose of providing structural integrity to the sandwich for pocket transport. No way a delicate French pastry could withstand on the go eating and quick pocket storage!

Consumed with a glass of dill pickle juice!  :)

I will try to remember to remind Boutin's Mini-mart to have pop tarts on hand (for the refined NERd palate) and the NERDS candy as a memento.  In good conscience, I will request any 400k riders in July do not mix the NERDS candy in with a soda drink.  Sandwich and soda are paid for in the entry fee but not stomach pumping on the side of the road, etc.  The Paris Brest pastry is over the top as is.  Best!

I keep wondering what would make a proper BMB pastry, even if BMB was well in the rear-view mirror when I joined NER.  A Boston Cream choux ring with some maple candy?   Or something riffing on butter tarts?

I'm going to try making a Paris-Brest at some point; they don't actually look that difficult, just time consuming.

Sarah,

How about a BPB baguette recipe?  Boston-Portland-Boston baguette shaped like the route itself!

Also, you might want to watch this inspiring video on "le velo": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jn0FF1KwL4I

Warning: it may have come out of California.  The terrain looks suspiciously like the hills where fat biking began (on the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge.)

Then again--who can say?  Kind of in your face lyrics and visuals, nonetheless.

:)

A ring-shaped pastry with pop tart crust, fig newton filling, topped with Nutella and sprinkled with Nerds candy?
