The New York Natural Heritage Program (NYNHP) is working with organizations in Michigan and other Great Lake states to increase our knowledge of vernal pools using new mapping tools and community science. Remote sensing will be used to find potential vernal pools in three focal areas in the western, northern, and capital regions of New York. NYNHP is building a participant network though a community science program (NY POOLS). Volunteers will be needed in 2026 and 2027 to survey select potential vernal pools in these three regions up to three times through the year to assess habitat, amphibian breeding, and other key factors. For additional information, contact NYNHP Zoologist Ashley Ballou at Ashley...@dec.ny.gov.
We are looking for volunteers to join our community science program who are located within (or willing to travel to) one of the three New York focal areas listed below. Please sign up to be involved using this link: https://signup.com/go/OXRyejc
