The Kwit Lab at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, is seeking a highly motivated M.S. student with interests in movement ecology, population dynamics and/or seed dispersal, and to apply these skills with bog turtles. Primary emphasis will be in Tennessee, but may also include other areas in the bog turtle’s southern population. This project will entail collaboration with multiple partner organizations. The funded 2-yr assistantship ($16,300 per year in salary; tuition waived; health insurance provided) will begin in the Fall semester (August 2021), and will entail the student working 10 hours per week as a teaching assistant in the Department of Forestry, Wildlife and Fisheries’ undergraduate programs, and 10 hours per week as a research assistant (20 hours total) while pursuing their MS in Wildlife and Fisheries Science. For admission, students must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in forestry, wildlife, fisheries or other natural resource area prior to Fall 2021 matriculation. Other requirements include: a strong work ethic; ability to work independently and cooperatively with others; GPA >3.0; experience with animal handling, telemetry, GIS and knowledge of plants of the Southeast are preferred.
