Seasonal Turtle Biologist
To aid its conservation efforts, The Mid-Atlantic Center for Herpetology and Conservation (MACHAC) is seeking an entry level biologist to assist with various turtle species (Clemmys guttata, Glyptemys insculpta, and potentially Terrapene carolina, and Glyptemys muhlenbergii) grants. MACHAC is a non-profit organization dedicated to the study, conservation, and advocacy of amphibians and reptiles (www.machac.org).
Duties include: Assisting with meeting planning and drafting of meeting notes; coordinating and implementing field season surveys (trapping and visual encounter surveys); following a standardized sampling protocol to collect data; processing turtles; entering and managing data; conservation planning (some GIS based planning); literature searches; and drafting/editing of written documents (e.g., status updates and summary reports; conservation plans, and best management practices). Candidates will be expected to be comfortable working in extreme weather and field conditions (aquatic environments, high heat, stinging and biting insects, noxious plants, etc.).
