Clever Student Rostering - General Inquiry

Hey Travis, thanks for the knowledge share on OneRoster (multi-race issue turns into NULL value). We are wondering how many districts use Clever over OneRoster. Does your district also use Clever? If so, what apps/systems are best to integrate with it? Are you able to control which course-section-rosters are submitted into systems? For example, we see that Clever can be used for student rostering into HMH. We only want Science and a few Math course-sections as part of the student rostering. Would we be able to control that rostering piece using Clever?
At this time, we do not use One Roster or Clever but there is talk of activating Clever if the data submission can be controlled by the district. In other words, is it an all-or-nothing student roster submission?

Clever works well and it is free. Well free to schools as the app vendors pay to play with Clever. The other big name option out there is Classlink, it is opposite model. School pays subscription to Classlink.
It does have granularity in what is shared with Apps. So, you may be able to make it work for what you need.
I am not a fan of the OneRoster as compared to other syncs. Clever has made us move from the previous IC auto sync (adhoc based) to the OneRoster Sync (API Sync) and I find OneRoster lacking. Want non-teaching staff to sync to Clever and then to your app where you need them? Good luck, still trying to fix that. Reverted to manually entering those staff in Clever. Race fields, not all of them. Two or more is working now, need to see if Clever is sending that to NWEA. However, this year HI is the null, 0 or ----- value in Clever.
I would still recommend Clever. It is a time saver for me. It has it pros and cons. It is also priced well for the taxpayer. Then again, the publishers probably tack on extra for their apps that are Clever capable to cover their costs to Clever, so is it free?

Yes. You can enter them one at a time or via a “staff.csv”. To enter them, go to > Support Tools > Custom Data. Top right, Add custom data drop down. I don’t remember the steps for a .csv or where the template is. There are help articles on doing it IIRC.

I am working on getting a mapping done with Clever to truncate ours. We have a 5 day period schedule, so ours are super long with the added; Monday – 2 Tuesday -1, etc. I am working with Clever to use section_number instead of the period names. This will work in our use and it will fixe NWEA errors for “Class name too long”.
Reach out to their support and they should be able to help. In their own time, but they should get it set for you. I am still waiting to get a confirmation on my case that they made the change, been at least week. LOL.
