Hello Nebraska data stewards,

We finalized our Census moments ago and are stuck on Step #6 of the Census Report Instructions.  What did other districts upload as a file that meets their required “documentation”?

I just checked and updated the Census Extract from Campus, put in their comments section what it was from, what I did, and how I got the data (that it was from our SIS), and added that.  (shrug)  That's all I have so that's what I did.  We don't send out letters to families.  We just take the data from our public OLR and the data forwarded from our non-public school.

What do you all do about the Amish families?

Thank you Patricia! We did hear back from NDE late yesterday afternoon and they gave us the following advice:

From NDE Office of Finance: “We just need a document supporting the numbers you are reporting on the Census collection.  Do you have a program that keeps track of these numbers?  If so, then print and use this report.  If not, you could type something on school letterhead which explains your process for gathering the data and how you arrived at the numbers.  Please let me know if you have any questions.”

We submitted a copy of our report that is generally provided to the school district administrators with some added process description. The NDE said that it was fine to submit that report. Whew!

😌

I appreciate your feedback!

We don't have Amish families in our district, but I would treat them like you would for homeschooled or non-public students who live in your district, but don't go to school in your public school.  I'm not sure how you get their information, if there is someone you could reach out to, or liaise, with to get their information for you.
