Fargo Police Arrest Two Juveniles and Recover Eight Stolen Firearms as Part of Ongoing Investigation

Case Update: Burglary involving stolen firearms in the 4100 block of 13th Ave. S.

FARGO, NORTH DAKOTA – In the early morning hours of Thursday, July 9, The Fargo Police Department responded to a burglary at a business in the 4100 of 13th Ave. S., after multiple suspects used a stolen vehicle to force entry into the business and steal a total of 16 handguns.

Just before 4 a.m., surveillance video captured a stolen gray 2015 Hyundai Sonata backing through the store's entrance, causing an estimated $50,000 to $60,000 in damage. As alarms sounded, two suspects entered the store, shattered a handgun display case and loaded multiple firearms into bags before fleeing. The burglary lasted approximately one minute.

Video from a nearby business showed a second stolen vehicle, a white Hyundai Sonata, staged in the parking lot just north of the store. Moments after the burglary, one suspect was seen running from the business and entering the waiting vehicle before it left the area.

Investigators determined the Hyundai used to breach the store that was left at the scene had been stolen from a residence less than two blocks away. The vehicle's ignition had been pried apart, consistent with the nationwide theft trend involving certain Hyundai and Kia models. To better establish a timeline of events, Investigators also reviewed FLOCK license plate reader data. That review showed the stolen vehicle, after it had been stolen, was in the area throughout the evening and early morning hours before both vehicles were positioned near the business.

At the initial scene, officers and investigators recovered significant pieces of evidence, including a cell phone left atop the damaged display case, blood evidence on broken glass and DNA evidence from the stolen vehicle. Additional physical evidence was collected, and within hours, investigators had identified several juvenile suspects.

On Friday, July 10 at approximately 12:55 p.m., members of the Metro Area Street Crimes Unit and Fargo patrol officers conducted a traffic stop in the 2100 block of University Drive S. involving one of the identified suspects, a 14-year-old male. He was arrested on a juvenile pickup order, and four of the stolen handguns were recovered from his backpack. He was transported to juvenile detention on charges of Burglary, Theft/Possession of a Motor Vehicle, Theft of Firearms, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Minor and the juvenile pickup order.

As the investigation continued, detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division’s Property Crimes Team obtained search warrants for two residences connected to the suspects. The warrants were executed later that evening, resulting in the recovery of four additional stolen handguns and the arrest of a second suspect, a 15-year-old male. He was transported to juvenile detention on charges of Burglary, Theft/Possession of a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Mischief to a Vehicle and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Minor.

This investigation remains active as investigators continue working to locate the remaining stolen firearms and identify and locate any additional individuals involved. Anyone with information related to this investigation is encouraged to contact The Fargo Police Department at 701.241.5777. Anonymous tips can be submitted by texting keyword FARGOPD and the tip to 847411.

No additional information is available at this time. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

The Fargo Police Department recognizes the outstanding work of its officers, detectives, investigators and the Metro Area Street Crimes Unit, whose coordinated efforts quickly led to the identification of suspects and the recovery of half of the stolen firearms.
