The City of Fargo Announces Student Winners of “Mayor for a Day” Essay Contest
The winners will tour City Hall and present their essays at tonight’s City Commission meeting
FARGO, NORTH DAKOTA – The City of Fargo is announcing the winners of its “Mayor for a Day” essay contest, an initiative designed to engage young minds and encourage students to share their vision for the community. The contest, open to students in Fargo Public Schools, invited participants to answer the question: "What would you do if you were mayor for a day?"
Mayor Dr. Tim Mahoney selected students Aubrie Myrmoe and Laila Wangen as the contest winners. Laila is a third grader at Kennedy Elementary School, and Aubrie is a seventh-grade student in Fargo Public Schools’ Self-Directed Academy. Their essays were chosen based on originality, content, grammar and structure. The winning essays can be viewed at FargoND.gov/MayorforaDay.
As part of their recognition, Aubrie and Laila, along with their families, will meet Mayor Mahoney and tour City Hall this afternoon (Monday, March 30). Following the tour, the students will read their essays during the City Commission meeting at 5 p.m.
MEDIA AVAILABILTY: The winning students will be available for interviews at 4:15 p.m. today in the atrium of City Hall (225 4th St. N.). Please contact Public Information Manager Archie Ingersoll at 701.997.9539 or AInge...@FargoND.gov to make arrangements.
