Fargo Fire Department Extinguishes Apartment Building Fire at 1521 27th Avenue South

No residents of the building were injured; one cat did not survive

 

FARGO, NORTH DAKOTA – The Fargo Fire Department responded on Thursday, October 30, at approximately 2:13 a.m. to a report of a fire at an apartment building at 1521 27th Ave. S. Fire crews arrived to find fire in a second-floor unit with fire spreading on the outside of the building up to the third floor and into the attic.

 

The 24-unit apartment building was evacuated. One person was rescued from the third floor. No people were injured in the fire. One cat in a second-floor unit did not survive.

 

A second alarm was called to bring in additional fire crews. The fire was extinguished a little more than an hour after the first fire crew arrived. The Fargo Fire Department responded with six engines, two battalion chiefs and one truck.

 

The Fargo Police Department, Sanford Ambulance, Salvation Army and American Red Cross provided assistance at the scene. The Fire Department is working with the property owner to determine if a portion of the building can be reoccupied. 

 

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and a cost estimate of the damage is not yet available.

The Fargo Fire Department is providing the following update on the fire at 1521 27th Ave. S. that occurred on Oct. 30, 2025:

The fire was determined to have started in the living room area of a second-floor apartment. However, the cause remains undetermined after the investigation. Damage is estimated to exceed $500,000.
