Students give Gov. Armstrong tour of new Williston Basin Career and Technical Education Center

Gov. Kelly Armstrong visited the Williston Basin Career and Technical Education Center (WBCTEC) this week for a tour of the new facility with students.

During the showcase, students showed the governor what they were working on and the various skills they obtained through CTE courses such as aviation, welding, firefighting, EMT, culinary arts and construction.

"North Dakota's greatest resource is our young people, and CTE opens many doors for them to have a bright future," Armstrong said. "These opportunities will continue to move us closer to our goal of making North Dakota the best place to live, work and raise a family."

The WBCTEC was one of 13 career academies approved for $88 million in matching funding by the Legislature and the North Dakota Department of Career and Technical Education in 2021.

Armstrong holds roundtable discussion on health care with business and community leaders

During his visit to Williston, Gov. Armstrong also visited with business and community leaders from northwestern North Dakota to discuss improving rural health care.

Armstrong signed legislation in January that allows North Dakota to launch its Rural Health Transformation Program, with nearly $200 million in federal funding appropriated for the first year of the five-year initiative.

The North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services is actively promoting the program’s upcoming grant opportunities to support rural health priorities and encourage broad participation across the state.

The Rural Health Transformation Program, part of the federal Working Families Tax Cut Act passed by Congress and signed into law by President Trump, focuses on four strategic initiatives:

  • Strengthening and stabilizing the rural health workforce.
  • Making North Dakota healthy again with preventive care and healthy eating.
  • Bringing high-quality health care closer to home.
  • Connecting technology, data and providers for a stronger North Dakota.
