Supreme Court Justice Vernon R. Pederson died Feb. 26. A UND School of Law graduate, he was admitted to the North Dakota bar in 1949. He served on the Supreme Court from 1975-1985. A burial service will be held at a later date.

NEJD Judge Geiger to retire
District Judge Richard Geiger has announced his retirement effective October 1. He was elected judge of the Northeast Judicial District in 1994. He previously served as county judge of Walsh, Pembina, and Cavalier Counties from 1987-1994.

Visiting the Supreme Court
Visitors to the Supreme Court should be aware the only public entrance into the Capitol is the south doors underneath the large outside stairway. The entrance has walk-through metal detectors staffed by the North Dakota Highway Patrol security during
regular business hours. The closest parking for the south entrance is to the east of the entrance, and the west side of the Capitol. If you have a scheduled argument or appointment, allow at least 15 minutes to park, enter through the south door and
come to the Supreme Court on the far east end of the first floor of the Capitol.
Court adopts amendments to summary disposition rule
The Supreme Court has adopted amendments to N.D.R.App.P. 35.1 on summary dispositions. The amendments take effect May 10.

Herbert L. Meschke, former Justice of the North Dakota Supreme Court, died May 19, 2017, at his Minot home. Funeral arrangements are pending. Meschke was appointed to the Court in January 1985 and retired September 30, 1998.
