Armstrong, ND Parks and Recreation to dedicate North Dakota's 14th state park at Pembina Gorge
BISMARCK, N.D. (MAY 28, 2026) – Gov. Kelly Armstrong and North Dakota Parks and Recreation are inviting the public to gather at Pembina Gorge State Park on Wednesday, June 3, for an official dedication ceremony for North Dakota’s 14th state park.
The event will include the first campfire and s’mores for all attendees to celebrate the grand opening of North Dakota’s newest state park since establishing Cross Ranch State Park in 1989.
Members of the media are invited to attend and explore the new campground before it officially opens to the public on June 9.
WHAT: Dedication of Pembina Gorge State Park with media availability to follow
WHO: Gov. Kelly Armstrong, North Dakota Parks and Recreation Director Cody Schulz, Park Manager Mike Duerre
WHEN: 1 p.m. CT Wednesday, June 3; following the dedication ceremony, the park will offer media self-guided activities, educational booths, park tours and a guided trail hike until approximately 3:30 p.m.
WHERE: Pembina Gorge State Park campground, 10457 121st Ave. NE, Walhalla, N.D. (1 mile north of Walhalla Country Club)

- Take County Road 55 (104th St NE) W for 5 miles
- At the Y in the road, head N on 121st Ave NE
- The destination is 0.5 miles N on your left
