Electrical and water upgrades at select state parks coming this fall
Bismarck, ND – Campers will notice a significant improvement in power and water delivery to their RVs after completion of a large upgrade project in several North Dakota state parks this fall.
While crews work on electrical and water upgrades at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park, Lewis and Clark State Park, Grahams Island State Park and Lake Metigoshe State Park, campers will experience temporarily reduced campsite availability starting Sept. 9. Campers in nearby campgrounds may experience some inconveniences during construction if adjacent water or electrical lines in those campgrounds become affected.
The improvement projects will upgrade many campsites from 20 and 30-amp to 20, 30 and 50-amp power while also adding individual water hydrants on each campsite within select campgrounds.
Though construction will impact campsites, all other reservations and facilities such as swim areas, dog parks, playgrounds, primitive sites, and vault toilets will remain open and special events will continue as scheduled.
Availability beginning Sept. 9 is as follows:
Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park
· All campsites and cabins within the campground will be unavailable and unable to be reserved for the duration of the upgrade project starting Sept. 9 and continuing into November.
· Both comfort stations in campground will be unavailable.
· The 4 primitive horse camping site will remain open.
· All vault toilets will also remain open.
Lewis and Clark State Park
· Campsites 1-73 (Sandstone and Limestone Loops) will be closed for water upgrades.
· Campsites 1-12 in Sandstone Loop will be closed for electrical upgrades.
· The comfort station will be closed.
· Individuals will be able to dump at the dump station but no flush-out option will be available.
· Campsites 74-101 (Ironstone Loop), primitive sites 50-57 and the cabins will remain open.
· Vault toilets and the water hydrant at the park office will be available.
Grahams Island State Park
· Campsites 1-41 (Ziebach Campground) and Campsites 100-144 (Howard Campground) will be closed for water and electrical upgrades.
· The Ziebach Campground comfort station will also be closed.
· The Howard comfort station will be operational until normal fall closure at the end of September.
· The restroom located near the fish cleaning station will also be open until Nov. 1.
· Campsites 145-188 (LaRose campground) will remain open.
· All primitive campsites will also be available.
Lake Metigoshe State Park
· Campsites 45-90 (Washegum Campground) will be closed for water and electrical upgrades.
· The Washegum Campground comfort station will also be closed.
· Campsites 1-44 (Maid O’ Moonshine Campground) and Maid O’ Moonshine comfort station will remain open during construction.
· All primitive campsites will also be available.

Each state park is currently slated for infrastructure or maintenance projects, and additional electrical and water upgrades in other parks are scheduled for 2025.
