Fargo Police Resolve Domestic Disturbance with Assistance from Red River Valley SWAT Team

Officers arrested two suspects in connection with the incident at a Fargo hotel

FARGO, NORTH DAKOTA On Wednesday, December 3, at approximately 6:57 p.m., Fargo Police officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in the 1400 block of 35th Street South.

Upon arrival, officers encountered three uncooperative individuals in a hotel room. One adult male exited the room and alleged he had been assaulted by an adult female in the room. When officers attempted to communicate with the female, they were indirectly sprayed with a chemical irritant. Further attempts to engage the two remaining occupants of the room were unsuccessful.

Due to the violent actions of the individuals involved and their known criminal history, the Red River Valley SWAT Team was activated. After a standoff, officers safely resolved the situation at approximately 10:10 p.m. The two individuals remaining in the hotel room were taken into custody without further incident. Both were transported to a local healthcare facility to be medically cleared before being booked into the Cass County Jail.

  • Jessica Maher, a 37-year-old Fargo resident, was arrested for Assault on a Peace Officer and Domestic Assault.
  • Justin Peterson, a 37-year-old Fargo resident, was arrested in connection with an earlier incident in which he allegedly terrorized hotel staff with a machete.

The Fargo Police Department commends the response of its officers and the Red River Valley SWAT Team in ensuring the safety of the public. The FPD is committed to safeguarding our community by demonstrating our core values of Professionalism and Guardianship.
