Registration now open for 2023 Day Camps for youth at Lake Metigoshe State Park

The Outdoor Learning Center (OLC) at Lake Metigoshe State Park is hosting a series of summer camps for youth ages 7-13, focused on hands-on recreational skills and environmental education. Registration is now open for all camp opportunities at https://bit.ly/LMSPShowClix, and closes about 10 days prior to each camp or as camp(s) fill. Registration is $40 for the full day camps; $25 for the half-day camp opportunities. Participation is limited and camps may fill quickly.

Camp Opportunities:

Day Camps for 7 & 8 year olds (half-day) - June 28, July 19 and Aug 1

Day Camps for 9-11 year olds - June 21, June 29, July 20 and Aug 2

Day Camps for 12 & 13 year olds - June 22, July 26, Aug 9 and Aug 10

*Specific activities for each camp can be found at the ShowClix link above.

Topics and activities affiliated with the camps include wildlife adaptations, reptiles & amphibians, kayaking, archery, wetland exploration, mountain biking, fishing, Dutch oven cooking, survival skills, and several others. This year, there are opportunities for youth ages 12 & 13 to obtain their OHV safety certification and gain hands-on experience operating an OHV by going on a guided ride at the Turtle Mountain State Recreation Area.

The goals for the OLC Day Camp include introducing youth to various recreational opportunities, providing an opportunity to acquire basic skills, promote how to safely enjoy the outdoors, educate participants about our state’s natural resources and simply enjoy their summer break.

Those interested in receiving future information via email about Lake Metigoshe State Park’s OLC Day Camps should send a request to be added to the OLC Day Camp email list. Requests can be sent to Amy Schimetz at asch...@nd.gov or call 701-263-4514. In addition, they’re encouraged to follow the Lake Metigoshe State Park Facebook page.

Families from out of the area needing lodging for the camps are encouraged to reserve a campsite or make a reservation in one of the Lake Metigoshe State Park cabins or yurt. To check future availability or make reservations, please call 1-800-807-4723 or visit www.parkrec.nd.gov. Cabins can be reserved up to one year in advance; campsites have a 95-day reservation window.

All of the North Dakota State Parks require entrance fees in the amount of $7/day/vehicle, or visitors can obtain an annual pass for $35 or $55 for a family/combo permit (two vehicle annuals going to those in the same household). The 2023 annuals are valid through April 30, 2024 and can also be purchased through the state parks website.

Lake Metigoshe State Park is located 14 miles NE of Bottineau, North Dakota, along the Lake Loop Road, just off of Highway 43.
