|
(WEST FARGO, N.D. – May 11, 2026) The City of West Fargo, a Tree City USA community, will hold an Arbor Day celebration at 1 p.m. Friday, May 15, 2026, at the Rustad Recreation Center, 601 26th Ave E. The celebration will include a tree dedication in honor of Sue and Steve Baron. The Barons are long-time West Fargo residents and volunteers. Steve is the West Fargo Rural Fire Chief and Sue is the founder of GoldenDrive a non-profit organization that raises awareness and assistance for the youth homelessness crisis. This event is free and open to the public. Sponsored by the West Fargo Urban Forestry Committee, this annual celebration includes a mayoral proclamation, Tree City USA recognition and tree dedication celebration. City of West Fargo has been recognized as a Tree City USA community since 1984 through the Arbor Day Foundation. To maintain this designation, a City must maintain a forestry board or department, have a City tree ordinance, spend at least $2 per capita on urban forestry, and celebrate Arbor Day. The City of West Fargo will receive the the Foundation’s Growth Award for the 11th year. This award recognizes cities for outstanding tree care and community engagement. Arbor Day is a global celebration to plant commemorative trees, provide education on tree planting and care, and celebrate the benefits trees provide.
