Iwanted to configure SW Associative Interface for Workbench 2022 R2, in order to use parameters from Solidworks in Ansys. When I open the CAD Configuration Manager as administrator, I see that Solidworks is set to Reader. I switch it to Workbench Associative Interface and go next -> configure.

It says it's configured and I'm ready to go. However, when I import Solidworks geometry and open it in Mechanical, I can't see the parameters, even those with DS or ANS prefix. When I open the CCM again, it's back to Reader, and not Associative Interface like I configured it.

I've tried reconfiguring it for like 10 times, but it will still be switched back to reader when opening it again. What should I do in order for it to work? I'm on a research license. Thanks in advance.

The SolidWorks Reader provides full access to the Assembly, B-rep, Visualization, View and PMI Data stored within a particular SolidWorks file. A file does not need to have a particular extension to be read correctly by HOOPS Exchange however the file extensions of SolidWorks files that you can expect to be loaded by HOOPS Exchange are:

SolidWorks uses Parasolid as its geometry engine.As a result the reading of the B-rep in our SolidWorks reader is based on our Parasolid reader which allows you to query the full topological and geometric model defined in a Parasolid file.HOOPS Exchange provides evaluators which allow you to direct query all the geometry types available in Parasolid.You can additionally ask HOOPS Exchange to approximate any specific geometry and provide it in a standard NURBS form.

Feature tree reading is supported with SolidWorks, with access to detailed information for holes, patterns and threads.Pitch, handedness and tip angle data are not retrieved for threads contained in holes.

Decals are special textures generally used for displaying product markings on a model.As of 2023 U1, HOOPS Exchange supports the reading of Decals in SolidWorks through our materials and textures API.

Decals textures are projected using planar, spherical, cylinder or label projections.Label projections are a special type of uv texture-mapping that avoid stretching, which makes it suitable for text decals.

SolidWorks allows to provide a masking texture or a color to define the partial transparency of decals.This feature is supported within our reader by transforming masking information into alpha component for the in-memory textures.

Currently, our SolidWorks reader does not support multiple textures on a same face.This limitation makes Decal and texture supports mutually exclusive.The behavior in such case is that if a read face contains both a texture and a decal, the texture has precedence.

I to have files open without the huge navigation pane open on the left side. It's messing with previews in Solidworks PDM. This meaning I want ALL PDF files to open and NOT HAVE TO CLICK THE SMALL ARROW to hide the pane ON EVERY SINGLE DRAWING. Here are some snips.

There was a tools pane that opened on the right side, if I go to (Edit > Preferences > Documents > Check, Remember current state of tools pane) that no longer opens or shows in the previewer which is very perfect! Why is there no option like that with navigation/bookmark panes on the left?

Typical Adobe. Man, you all have consistently made Acrobat a pain in the ass to use over the last decade. Always changing small but key features. Obfuscating settings. I use Acrobat daily and I wish there was a proper alternative.

lol "suck it up and deal with it" is not a valid response. do your research and see how many actual complaints you find on the web about this and resolve it. stop wasting everyone's time with this "workaround".

It's pretty sad that Adobe is steadily ruining Acrobat to the point where it's pretty much a piece of trash. Acrobat v. 9 had everything right. Now Acrobat barely works. You even have to pay for basic features like Rotate 90 degrees, whereas it was a free feature in the past.

Adobe Acrobat Pro has turned into garbage, wasting our time clicking to close bookmarks and enlarge view EVERY time we open a document, moving the tools from top to left bottom, moving the save icon from upper left to mid-right location (when top left has been its location since inception 2017), and the Reader modifications are also just as ridiculous! In the reader we cannot default the pan tool, it is always select AND the paging options are also gone- you are forced to use bottom right icons to manually switch between pages. Going back to FoxIt Reader software.

I just updated to the "new" version of reader 23.006.20360-what a mess. I tried to hide the keft side panel following the procedure I used on the previous version with no effect. I tried several times with no effect. I just went back to the previous version and everything works.

Using Acrobat Reader 11, I found this to be a great starting point. The corresponding registry key did not have the desired effect, unfortunately, but I changed 5 additional keys to use the same parameters, and now it works. Possibly, I only had to change 1 or 2, but I didn't take the time to test them one at a time.

Do you know which key is affecting internet explorer plugin? we have an app using builtin ie to display pdf files. These changes are fixing and removing bookmarks pane with regular pdf files but, ie plugin still shows bookmarks.

For the current version of Acrobat Reader DC (As of October 2019) the single registry change posted by harryoud above works perfectly. This should be marked as the new correct answer given that the original solution, while applicable to older versions, is now outdated.

Any ideas what registry entry one should modify if you want to chage the behaviour of the Acrobat Reader plugin that Solidworks PDM filemanager uses to display PDF-files?

The process that is started when PDF-file is displayed is C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat DC\Acrobat\AcroRd32.exe

Hi harryyoud, do you have a step by step methodology for me to achieve this on a mac please? I am relatively good with registry edits but as much details as possible would be much appreciated, thanks in advance! To clarify, want to change so bookmark panel on left doesnt open with every document

I didn't find any of the above solutions that I tried above worked and not happy with Acrobat Reader DC v2019.021.xxxxx; I tried Windows 10, Microsoft Edge. It's clean and easy to read. No pains panes on either side.

I may still use Acrobat Reader DC when I need and advanced search.

I've really like Acrobat Reader in the passed but it's getting to be a pain to use.

Since an update to Adobe Reader DC stated that it would uninstall a legacy, perpetual license installation of Adobe Acrobat I deleted Adobe Reader DC from my Windows computer and will no longer use Adobe Reader DC. I consider this deleting of legacy software by Adobe underhanded.

LOL...the decomissioned license servers for Photoshop when they converted to subscription system. As a result - I lost my permanent Photoshop license when my old computer finally died. Couldn't reinstall Photoshop again - a product for which I paid a hefty stack of $$$...

SolidWorks 2013 Part II - Advanced Techniques picks up where SolidWorks 2013 Part I - Basic Tools leaves off. When we were learning more about hololens 2 we saw the area with 3D animations and since we make 3D drawings of our products we could easily see how smart it would be to show them through Hololens 2 - but there is nowhere an applikation/described how to get them imported/posted/converted - to be able to see them in Hololens 2? unless you are a programmer or something - is there really no tool - App that can help with this part?

The hololens2, out of the box, includes an application called "3D Viewer" - this app will open .glb and\or .gltf. As you indicate, these file types can be exported from solidworks CAD and\or the solidworks "visualize" product (even the free version)

the HUGE problem is that almost all solidworks files, even a "small fastener" may be comprised of too many polygons...with solidworks files attempting to be viewed in 3D viewer, I find that any SW CAD file comprised of more than 10,000 polygons will fail to open in 3D Viewer.

another option is to buy a commercial product. We use TheoremXR from theorem solutions...this product costs thousands of US$ per year, but it handles all of the polygon reduction very easily and also includes an excellent application that runs on the hololens and provides for detailed interaction with the 3D solidworks model.

So the engineering company I working we use PTC products and but also looked Solidworks a while back. We also looked into the issue of "optimization" in regards to reducing poly count at the time. In the case of the PTC stuff, my company would have had to buy an additional module for PTC specifically related to reduction/optimization for exporting to other programs. The additional module was shockingly expensive. You might start by checking if you have the Solidworks equivalent optimization capabilities already or if there is an additional module.
