Onthe subject of cold fingers, there are two hand-warmer pockets. These are not zipped but the edges are finished with tape, making them pretty neat. The way the pocket lining material is stitched into the gilet effectively creates two internal pockets too.
Really like the look of this Paul, like the price even more compared to many other down gilet offerings out there. Been toying with the idea of a gilet as a warm layer option for a while but always looked at fleece until I saw this review, glad I held out as this one has to be a real contender! Cheers and all the best!
Thanks for the heads up in these. I have been wearing a RAB down gilet for a couple of yours now and love them to bits. Keeps the core warm but still allows plenty of freedom in the arms without over heating. I Like the look of the UNIQLO for its pack size(would double as a nice pillow) for day trips as well as the colder months.
Well at that price I had to. Sadly the green no longer seems to be an option so went with black as it will happily do the same job. Just a heads up too. There is free postage currently for orders over 40 so throw a pair of socks in the order to tip it over 40 to effectively get a free pair of socks ?
Hi Paul,
Looks like a great piece of gear. I have got a similar model from Mountain Equipment (Arete Vest) for 5 years now and it is my go-to piece of clothing when going out in the woods, mountains or just for a hike when it can get a little chilly. I really like that it is being lightweight, packs really small and my vest is even windproof. I think you will really enjoy it.
Thanks for your comments on the current offering from UniQlo. Mine is still going OK although has lost a little loft now. I still stuff it in a day pack when I want an option of extra insulation but no discernible extra weight.
The Brokk Jacket is a refined light down jacket for all purpose usage. The core fabric is our proprietary Levitend bio-based polyamide. Brokk has reinforced shoulders and the iconic Klttermusen triangle in the front chest and an embroidered Klttermusen logo.
Levitend are our Polyamide based apparel fabrics. Depending on the intended use, Levitend can include a mix of other fibers, such as polyester and Elastane. Our goal is to make Levitend fabrics in full compliance with our strict requirements for sustainability and quality.
At Klttermusen, we use only 800+ fill power goose down of the highest quality as insulation in our down products. Few competitors can match our warmth-to-weight ratio, and our down keeps its shape and insulating properties for decades if taken care of properly.
RDS-certified means that the entire supply chain is audited, and the welfare of the birds is respected during their entire life cycle. For example, live-plucking and force- feeding of the animals is strictly forbidden and all the down is fully traceable back to the farm.
We have chosen to work with chlorine-free, unbleached down, which means that a few feathers in every down product will be dark. If you encounter a feather visible through the outer fabric, gently squeeze or shake it until the feather has disappeared.

The Heat Conductivity Resistance (HCR) system is a performance value for thermal equipment that measures the warmth of a piece on a scale of 3 to 9, with 9 providing the most warmth. HCR combines the difference in insulation materials, external conditions, and body sensitivity.
Stuff Sack: The included stuff sack is lightweight, durable, and handy to use for storage when the jacket is being worn. It is a tad large, in my opinion, as the jacket could fit in a more compact stuff sack.

Just a heads up for any who might be interested. Saw this while ordering a heavier down jacket from their outlet, and was tempted, but I already have an OR Filament(which this resembles a hooded, yet even lighter, version of):
the breakfast burrito line was out the door on saturday, so I crossed the street to check out the montbell store. Kinda wish I hadn't because I tried on one of these, and now I want one. I've avoided the ex light mainly because of the lack of a drawcord and hood, but this one has both and a great kangaroo pocket for less than an oz more. I like the simple anorak design (less prone to zipper failure) and hood fits well with no adjustments. A piece like this works brilliantly in a running pack for day trips, or as one of a couple colder weather layers. Going stupidly light has gotten so comfortable.
I just received the Feathered Friends Daybreak hoody which weighs in on my scale as 8.3 oz for size small. This jacket claims 3.1oz of 900+ fill for a medium. This jacket although expensive def seems like a game changer compared to the montbell, WM, MH, other down jackets with the amount of fill and low weight. I can post pics later tonight or this weekend.
I thing the drawback to an anorak puffy would be if you like a snug fit, it might be a hassle to get on and off. The increased sizing needed for ease of on/off probably offsets the weight of zipper saved.

The lightest jacket in our Mythic series slashes weight and maximises warmth with body mapped insulation and ultralight construction. Down filled baffles are centred around the core while resilient synthetic insulation on the sides, cuffs, shoulders, and base of the hood breathes and manages moisture efficiently. Using only the best insulation, 900FP down and PrimaLoft Gold, this jacket is incredibly warm for its weight and bulk.
We finish all our down with a hydrophobic treatment that enables it to retain its loft in damp conditions, so that your gear dries fast and stays warm. Find out how it works.
*With the exception of our 1000FP down.
The cost effectiveness of when to turn off lights depends on the type of bulb and the cost of electricity. The type of lightbulb you use is important for several reasons. All lightbulbs have a nominal or rated operating life, which is affected by how many times they are turned on and off. The more often they are switched on and off, the lower their operating life.
Incandescent lights should be turned off whenever they are not needed, because they are the least efficient type of lighting. 90% of the energy they use is given off as heat, and only about 10% results in light. Turning lights off will also keep a room cooler, an extra benefit in the summer.
While halogens are more efficient than traditional incandescent bulbs, they use the same technology and are far less efficient than CFLs and LEDs. Therefore, it is best to turn these lights off whenever they are not needed.
