Williams Valley Middle School
Outcomes and Measures

Throughout the 2006-2007 school years an exemplary 11-week evidence-
based drug and alcohol prevention program was run with the entire
Williams Valley 7th and 8th grade middle school students. The 8th
grade completed the 11-week program while whole 7th grade class only
completed 8-weeks, but the outcomes reasonably eye opening!

What the data collected from Pre- and Post- survey data illustrates it
most of WV Students don't use and clearly believe it is harmful to
others and themselves to use Alcohol Tobacco and Other Drugs (ATOD)
once or twice and on a regular basis. Unfortunately the social view in
his or her class is "everyone is doing it".

Many factors come into light in order to set this social perceived
norm. Repeatedly seeing the same person smoke or drink. We all have
known the person who likes to tell tall tales. The media - TV,
movies, music, famous sports figures or celebrities. Rebellion. The
pressures are real and everywhere however most people do not.

The goal of this topic is to change the social perception in the
Northern Dauphin County from "everybody's doing it" to the factual
"MOST OF US DON'T".
