As some of you may know, this year, Christopher Columbus Day is being replaced with Indigenous Peoples Day, which is October 12th. Since this holiday is unprecedented on NC State's campus I, along with many others want to make sure that this is huge and in order for that to happen we need your help.
From 6:00-8:00pm on October 12th, the Office of Native American Student Affairs will be hosting "1490 Who?". This is a panel of three professors who are well acclimated or specialize in, Native American History/Studies. Each of the three panelists will give a presentation about a specific field.
- The events leading up to 1492 and more in-depth accurate information about Christopher Columbus.
- The impact that Christopher Columbus had and how it affected Native Americans during the time period of 1700-1900.
- Native Americans in the last 100 years and the modern conditions of Natives across the country.
After all of the presentations there will be a period for questioning which will hopefully be followed by remarks from the Chancellor.
If each and everyone one of you could plan on attending this event I would highly appreciate it. We will be spreading this information much more widely once we get some areas secured but please disseminate it to everyone you think would be interested in coming.
