We are seeking candidates for the role of Compost & Bioplastic Production Facility Operator. This position is for employment by ABM, the operator at our pilot facility for a client in Mountain View. ABM operates the facility on behalf of and under direction from Full Cycle Bioplastics and the local project partner.

The Compost & Bioplastic Production Facility Operator will work at the intersection of traditional waste management practices and emerging technology intended to confront the environmental impact of plastics and greenhouse gases. This position includes responsibilities similar to those found in a lab environment as well as a manufacturing floor. Knowledge in the areas of waste management, wastewater treatment, composting, and lab research will support the candidate well in this position. We highly value experience in standard laboratory operations and safety practices. Spanish fluency is a plus.
Location: Mountain View, CA 94043 US (Primary)
Hours: 8-hour shifts between 6am-10pm, Monday-Friday.
Report: This position reports to the Compost & Bioplastic Production Facility Supervisor.
System Operator responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Safety
Follow and support all safety policies and procedures
Ensure all waste or byproducts are disposed of according to relevant rules and regulations
Quality
Perform material sampling
Conduct sample analysis
Record sampling results
Inform Supervisor of any variances
Maintain accurate and neat records and production samples as required
Monitor wastewater prior to discharge or treatment
Material Handling
Collect, transfer and unload organic waste and bulking agent bins
Wash and return empty waste bins to kitchen operations
Ensure finished compost is cleanly contained in receiving carts
Monitor and replace dosing additive drums as needed
Collect, transfer, store and refrigerate production materials
Collect and load outbound materials for shipment
Support shipping/receiving activity as directed
Operation
Set up, clean and operate machinery per company standards
Run automated material loading and unloading unit operations
(automated bin tippers, conveyor belt)
Run pulping process per parameters and instructions
Ensure correct loading of in-vessel composter per established process parameters
Monitor in-vessel composter operation
Run automated and manual material transfers per process parameters and Supervisor direction
Run centrifuge unit operation process for material
Maintenance
Clean and maintain operating area per daily/weekly/monthly cleaning schedule
Perform daily/weekly/monthly maintenance as directed
Clean and calibrate sampling probes
Identify process challenges and coordinate troubleshooting efforts with Supervisor
Reporting
Record inbound & outbound weights of materials throughout unit operations
Record shipping/receiving information
Record all quality or inspection data as instructed
Record all production data as instructed
Other
Other duties as may be assigned from time to time to ensure timely, efficient operation of the Compost and Bioplastic Production Facility
Requirements:
2+ years of experience in one of these, or similar, fields:
Manufacturing, Compost, Wastewater, Biotech Operations, Sustainable Materials, Environmental Systems
Ability to work in a production environment, recognizing various sounds, odors, and alarms
Demonstrated understanding of system processes after completion of training
Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills
A high degree of ethical standard, trustworthiness, accuracy, and attention to detail
Excellent English communication skills (both verbal and written)
Able to lift 50 lbs
Must be able to work shifts and overtime as needed
Preferred skills:
Basic knowledge of piping, tubing and fitting sizes (standard/metric)
Basic machine maintenance skills: oil & grease machines, ability to change parts, and the ability to use hand tools to repair/calibrate
Basic knowledge of chemistry and biology
Waste management experience related to organics and recycling
Experience with circular materials, compost, plastics, fermentation or biotechnology
Fluent in Spanish
