Carpet Stewardship Associate

Location Preferred: Southern California, Greater Los Angeles Area

Reports to: California Program Director and Product Market Development Manager

Summary

Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE) seeks qualified applicants with expertise in administrative support and services, project coordination, research and writing, outreach, and organizational operations to join the in-state CARE team in implementing the California Carpet Stewardship Program. Candidates with knowledge or understanding of recycling, product stewardship, waste reduction, conservation or other environmental programs will receive special consideration.

About CARE

CARE is a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization, which began in 2002 as a result of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Carpet Stewardship signed by stakeholders including members of the carpet industry, government representatives, NGOs, and entrepreneurs. CARE is the facilitator for the market-based post-consumer carpet (PCC) recycling system in place across the United States. CARE actively supports its members (entrepreneurs, carpet industry, government entities and non-governmental organizations) to achieve its mission. The mission of CARE is to facilitate the carpet industry-led initiative to find market-driven solutions for the time sensitive diversion of post-consumer carpet from landfills. Primary Duties and Responsibilities

CARE seeks a highly organized and personable candidate to provide assistance to the Collections Program, in Northern, Central California and Southern California, in order divert more post-consumer carpet away from landfills and into the recycling stream. Essential duties consist of general office services, administrative projects, outreach, and recycling technical assistance. The candidate should be able to work both independently and as part of a team. Adept at effectively communicating with a wide variety of stakeholders. Working in close coordination with CARE's senior associates and project coordinator.

Duties include but are not limited to:

General office services including organizing and tracking information
Administrative support for CARE staff members
Assist with region-focused recycling activities
Assist with local government outreach and presentations
Respond to drop-off site and customer service inquiries and needs
Assist with meeting recycling convenience goals
Assist with helping to grow the private and public collection network for recycling and reuse
Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications Required

Two or more years of professional administrative services and coordination experience in the environmental/recycling industry or nonprofit world
Administrative support experience in remote team environment
Microsoft Office skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Work a flexible schedule including overnight travel

Experience/Education

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the knowledge and abilities listed. A BS/BA degree in the area of Environmental Studies, Physical Sciences, Natural Resources, Biological Sciences, Marketing, Communications, Business, Education, or related field is preferred.

Qualifications Preferred

Familiarity with relevant California waste reduction and diversion legislation such as: AB 939, AB 341, AB 32, AB 2398, AB 1158.
Familiarity with Recycling and EPR Programs.
Knowledge of zero waste, cradle-to-cradle design, biomimicry or similar recyclability concepts to increase recyclable and recycled content materials over time.
Direct experience as recycling or sustainability coordinator for local government.
Trades, construction, installation, permitting, LEED certification knowledge or experience.
Spanish or other language writing and speaking proficiency desired.

Compensation

Annual salary range is $50,000 to $70,000, commensurate with experience. CARE offers a full benefits package including annual leave, health, dental, vision coverage and a 401K plan.

Work Environment and Location

This position will work from the employee's home office work space and use personal equipment (use of CARE provided computer/phone may be considered upon request). Occasional travel throughout the state of CA is required.

Occasionally, the work may be performed in a warehouse, factory setting or at waste management facilities and the outdoors, which may expose the individual to fumes, airborne particles, loud noise levels and unpleasant odors. While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, talk and hear, and use a computer keyboard and monitor. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Licenses/Certificates

Possession and continued maintenance of a valid class C California driver's license, automobile insurance and a safe driving record. A DMV report will be required.
