GreenWaste of Palo Alto is a locally based and privately owned company dedicated to the development of innovative and cost-effective solutions to address the everyday environmental challenges related to solid waste. 

We are pleased to be the service provider for residents and businesses in the City of Palo Alto. Position Summary GreenWaste of Palo Alto is currently seeking highly motivated, professional, self-directed, and enthusiastic candidates to fill the Environmental Outreach Coordinator (EOC) position. Candidates should have experience implementing public outreach and education programs, and possess a strong desire to expand waste prevention, reuse, and recycling programs. 

The Field Outreach Specialist will constantly strive to increase waste diversion across the commercial sector, as well as work to reduce recycling contamination across the community. Position Description As a member of the Environmental Outreach team, contribute to the following efforts:  Identify the waste disposal and recycling needs of commercial businesses, multi-family complexes, and schools.  Conduct waste audits.  Conduct in-person waste sorting trainings with businesses and residents.  Provide all customers with appropriate educational information necessary to make informed, environmentally- forward decisions relative to waste reduction, reuse, and recycling activities.  Report progress, challenges, and successes, including daily logs.  Respond to customer needs immediately and completely.  Help plan recycling and waste disposal needs for special events and large venues. As the Field Outreach Specialist, focus on the following efforts:  Conduct frequent in-person site assessments, waste audits, and staff trainings.  Provide reliable and expedient field customer support.  Assist customers with on-site service issues, such as contamination and overflow.  Use salesmanship skills to encourage continual improvement in the waste stream.  Ensure commercial businesses comply with Palo Alto’s Recycling and Composting Ordinance.  Maintain detailed records related to enforcement protocols and audits. Skills and Qualifications  Enthusiasm, creativity, and salesmanship.  Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, city planning, business or a related field.  One to three years of increasingly responsible experience related to the position.  Strong customer service and problem solving skills.  Experience with implementation of a recycling and/or waste reduction program, or other environmental program.  Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. Position Information: The Environmental Outreach Coordinator: Field Outreach Specialist position is a non-exempt hourly position with a flexible work schedule. Standard work is done on a Monday - Friday daytime schedule, however, semi-frequent early morning, evening, weekend, and holiday work will be required. Job-related travel is required and a company vehicle will be provided. 

Compensation: Financial compensation will be commensurate with applicable experience ($ 28-$30 per hour based on full-time employment). GreenWaste provides a competitive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance after three months and the option to participate in a 401k-retirement plan after one year. Paid time off accrues uniformly throughout the year and increases with tenure.
