Dennis completed his volunteering for the 2017 Master Compost and Solid Waste Course with the 2018 Zero Waste Youth Convergence. This year’s Convergence was focused on empowering youth to work collaboratively towards protecting and raising the voices of communities that have been damaged by the unjust dumping of toxic and hazardous waste while creating a space for an open discussion about equitable pathways to zero waste.
Dennis reflected on his experience: “I was motivated by the environmental racism that I experienced growing up in the heavily industrial area of South East Los Angeles County. I grew up across the street from a milk factory and down the street from a roofing factory, with fumes that could be smelled with car windows rolled up.”
Dennis, we thank you and congratulate you for dedicating your efforts to bridging the gap between zero waste and environmental justice.
