This position is expected to work out of our GWPA office in Santa Clara [and some job-related travel may be required]. 


Position Summary: 


GreenWaste is seeking to fill the position of Outreach and Operations Technician to provide support to one or more facilities. Candidates should have experience implementing public outreach and education programs, and possess a strong desire to expand waste prevention, reuse, and recycling programs. The Outreach and Operations Technician will constantly strive to increase waste diversion across the commercial sector, as well as work to reduce recycling contamination across the community. 


Essential Functions and Responsibilities: 


As a member of the Environmental Outreach team, contribute to the following efforts: 


  • Identify the waste disposal and recycling needs of commercial businesses, and multi-family complexes. 

  • Conduct waste audits. 

  • Conduct in-person waste sorting trainings with businesses and residents. 

  • Provide all customers with appropriate educational information necessary to make informed, environmentally forward decisions relative to waste reduction, reuse, and recycling activities. 

  • Report progress, challenges, and successes, including daily logs. 

  • Respond to customer needs immediately and completely. 

  • Help plan recycling and waste disposal needs for special events and large venues. 


As the Outreach and Operations Technician, focus on the following efforts: 


  • Provide link between Outreach activities and Operations. 

  • Carry out administrative functions of the Outreach and Operations teams, such as producing and maintaining detailed protocols and databases. 

  • Coordinate the outreach, training, and waste services required for special events. 

  • Work closely with City of Palo Alto staff to manage the waste services at city facilities such as offices and parks. 

  • Assist Customer Service team with outreach related phone calls. 



Skills and Qualifications


  • Enthusiasm, creativity, and salesmanship. 

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, city planning, business or a related field. 

  • One to three years of increasingly responsible experience related to the position. 

  • Strong customer service and problem-solving skills. 

  • Experience with implementation of a recycling and/or waste reduction program, or other environmental program. 

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. 


Position Information: 


The Outreach and Operations Technician is a non-exempt hourly position with a flexible work schedule. Standard work is done on a Monday - Friday daytime schedule, however, semi-frequent early morning, evening, weekend, and holiday work will be required. Job-related travel is required, and a company vehicle will be provided. 


Compensation: 


Financial compensation will be commensurate with applicable experience. GreenWaste provides a competitive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance after three months and the option to participate in a 401k-retirement plan after one year. Paid time off accrues uniformly throughout the year and increases with tenure.
