JOB DESCRIPTION: ZERO WASTE FIELD MANAGER

Race to Zero Waste is seeking a highly motivated, outgoing individual to help maintain and manage the Zero Waste Pop-up Project in Dolores Park, Zero Waste Event Services, support Zero Waste Facilitation Projects, and the Love Your Neighbor(hood) Program. All projects are in the San Francisco Bay Area. 

Position Title: Zero Waste Field Manager 

Location: San Francisco, CA

Status: Part-Time Employee; 26/hr @ roughly 30 hours per week; 80% (field) and 20% (admin)

About Race to Zero Waste: Race to Zero Waste (R20W) is a woman-founded and -run 501(c)3 environmental non-profit dedicated to reducing consumption or single-use plastics, implementing reuse, reducing waste, and promoting an equitable circular economy. Our mission is to instill zero waste solutions and support effective alternatives to single-use disposables upstream and downstream through community-centered education.

Job Summary: Lead and manage the educational outreach at the Zero Waste Station Pop-Up Program at Dolores Park and Ocean Beach, and provide assistance to Zero Waste Events, Love Your Neighborhood, and other technical projects. These services help to provide a holistic management of landfill diversion through characterization of waste materials generated in these public spaces.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Act as operational lead for the Love Dolores Project, Bay Area events, and technical projects including staff, volunteer, and contractor oversight. 

  • Provide onsite client relations, and vendor/equipment coordination.

  • Train staff to engage the public in zero waste education and get them involved in the Race to Zero Waste! 

  • Write proposals, contracts and quotes for new projects. 

  • Commit to weekend and major holiday work between April – October. 

  • Coordinate Zero Waste Educators and update scheduling on Google Sheets. 

  • Update the waste diversion tracking system after each workday. 

  • Assist with post-event and post-season report development and publication.

  • Coordinate volunteers, contractors, and staff for Dolores Park, events, and other Bay Area Projects assigned. 

  • Maintain a photographic library of the project by uploading photos to Google Drive. 

  • Be able to work and manage other San Francisco based collaborating 

  • Coordinate with Director of Communications to assist with public relations, marketing, press releases, and social media content.

Minimum Education and Experience Required: 

  • B.S./B.A., Environmental Science, Ecology, Business Management, or related program.

  • Must have a background in resource recovery/zero waste at event, non-profit work, recruitment, team supervision, and engagement. 

  • At least two years successfully supervising teams from diverse backgrounds. 

  • Must be able to reliably arrive at sites on time. Preferred to have valid CA driver’s license and/or provide own transportation to Dolores Park and any offsite presentation events throughout the local region.

  • English speaker (B2 equivalent or higher). Other languages a plus. 

  • Office and organization skills: Proficient in a variety of software programs including Social Media, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.

  • Experience in data entry, report writing, filing, and day-to-day operation of an office. 

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills and ability to plan, organize and prioritize workload.

  • Must be physically capable of lifting 50 lbs setting up event displays and equipment.  

  • CPR and First Aid certification beneficial.
