There is a total of eight people from Sage going to the MagRails
conference (www.magrails.com) on the 14th October and alos some going
to the DOJO event on the Saturday. I think this would be a good topic
at the October meetup to discuss what we have learnt, new techniques,
etc...

Ideas from Paul (previously posted under September meetup):

* building gems? Has anyone got halfbaked bits of code we can
collectively adopt and release as a gem? Eg I have hacked exception
notifier to log exception info to basecamp and it would be nice to
make it reusable and to get it to link to other management tools.

* refactoring - looking at code analysis tools, and at techniques for
improving code. It'd be fun to take real snippets too and discuss how
to improve them, eg using better abstractions.

Sorry, reposting from Sept. discussion so it is in the correct thread.

+1 for MagRails catchup

+1 for code stuff from Paul

Damian has an html5 validation gem that he put together a few weeks
ago:
https://github.com/damian/html5_validator

Eamon at Sage had a holiday calendar he was working on, that might be
able to have wider use:
https://github.com/etskelly/holiday_machine

I am thinking of putting together a gem (Rails plugin) that does
liking/+1 functionality that is leaner than what is currently on
offer. i.e. without a 1-5 rating, (https://github.com/azabaj/
acts_as_rateable) and without a dislike (https://github.com/umerfarooq/
acts_as_likeable) and not for loads of types of models (https://
github.com/ryanto/acts_as_votable) only for User. Sure I could do it
with one of those, but it would be cool to build my own, and keep it
in Unix style, do one thing and one thing well.

Sounds good to me. Also we can look at embedded apps/engines that came into play with 3.1 should fit in nicely with the gem creation stuff

Hi all,

I've just got an email through from Firenze Jesmond Pizza who are
doing one-off free pizza for us on Tuesday 25th. They would like to
get an idea of numbers for the event, so could we all get are plus
ones in by the end of the day and I'll get back to them (with a couple
extra ;) ).

Anything interesting from the related dojo event? How about something on koans?

Can I come too?

Yes, please do. Unfortunately I have to fly to the Netherlands on Tuesday so I won't be able to make it, or taste the pizza :(

I have emailed Jim, from Firenze Jesmond and given him James Dean Shepherds contact details. So if there's no pizza, he'll have stashed it for breakfast.

Not going to put a +1 as I'm lactose intolerant so will be avoiding the pizza (and anyway, the order has already been placed for a handsome number of pizzas).  Guess that means there's more for the rest of you...

Look forward to seeing you all there.
