Dear NCIFL Officers,

Please respond to this email with your Campus, preferred email address and preferred phone number at which you can best be reached.

Santa Cruz? Still waiting to hear from you re: the tournament you're (hypothetically) holding on Saturday 27 October, and the Fall League Meeting the Friday night before.

Sincerely,

Thom Cate

Hey hey,

We'll be able to get hard dates for the kick off tournament and meeting hopefully within the week. Unless everyone is against it, the tournament might be postponed to the following weekend, Nov 3rd, because a lot of people are busy/occupied for Halloween weekend.

Hi all,

This is Trevor Jones from Cal Poly Fencing Club. We are not in favor of the November 3rd tournament as Cal Poly is hoping to bring back the Turkey Tournament on November 10th. We've been waiting on the announcement until everything was confirmed, but at this point Cal Poly's facilities branch has given us the tentative go ahead to host the tournament. Barring catastrophic failure, Cal Poly  should be able to host a tournament on November 10th.

If it turns out that November 3rd is the only date Santa Cruz can host, then we can try to move our tournament to the 17th; however, fighting for space at Poly is difficult to begin and we're not sure we can change the date after having it confirmed.

I apologize for the difficulty we're causing, but I truly don't believe we will be able to move the Turkey Tournament to the 17th. I will try if need be, however it will probably end with the Turkey Tournament being canceled altogether.

So if it's just Cal Poly who has an issue, I'd rather keep the Nov. 3rd tournament in Santa Cruz. I'm also not against having both tournaments in a row.

Dear All,

SC's request for 3 Nov is pretty reasonable in the Great Scheme of Things--although a little more notice could be wished for, but that's hardly an issue.

Myself, I am not much in favor of two tournaments on two successive weekends.  That's a lot of driving (and have you seen gasoline prices lately?) and a lot of time spent not studying/working/whatever for most members, especially 1st and 4th year students.  This is a really good time for all NCIFIL officers (there should be three per club) to weigh in with their various opinions, concerns and kudos. I'm hoping this will be amicably and swiftly resolved. Thanks.

* * * *

For myself, I'm still expecting all NCIFL officers to answer up to the roll call.  Every member should have a minimum of three officers (Prez, VP/Travel Sec and Treasurer-equivalent).  Please ask your fellow officers if they are members of the NCIFL email group and if not, would they kindly get on that ASAP?  Thanks again.

Looking forward to seeing you all again,

Thom

For clarification, our gym has already been reserved for Nov. 3rd.

I think November 3rd is just fine. My only concern is that the official decision be made ASAP so as we can arrange car rentals, members going, sports club office pile-of-papers, etc. That being said, it would also be awesome to see more than one tournament happen this semester. Hopefully you can work something out Cal Poly!

Ok, I'm gunna go ahead and say that the Nov. 3rd tournament is on. The league meeting will be Friday, Nov. 2nd at 8pm in the Cowell Conference Room. I'll set up the Askfred page within the next couple days.

Hey all, sorry for the late response. I've been indisposed all weeked.

I've put the plans in motion to change Cal Poly's Tournament to the 17th. I'm not sure if we'll get it, but I'll be sure to update when I have a final answer.

Dear All,

I'm glad to hear SC and Poly are good to go; it's my understanding Davis is as well.

SC: much as I (personally) don't like the timing, I understand why 3 Nov is a superior choice for you, and I credit your choice in the matter.  Poly, I know you already had plans in the works for Nov 10, thank you for doing your best to be flexible in this matter.  Perhaps if the 17 falls through for you another school can take that weekend?

Berkeley?  Are you on board, are you ready to fence?  It would be nice to hear Berkeley is ready for the season.

It's my understanding Davis has no problem getting venues with proper notice, but it would be nice to hear from UCD directly.

Cheers,

Thom Cate

Berkeley is on board with all the other scheduling (did you see my reply earlier?), but I'm still waiting on approvals for dates next semester. Cal Sports is rather slow...always. Davis, what are your tentative dates for next semester?

Best,
