Dear Ozzie,

Welcome, welcome indeed.  The NCIFL is a USFA-compliant collegiate league whose primary mission is one of education about fencing and fencing competitions for college-age student athletes. As such the NCIFL Bylaws provide for fencing which is still about competition, safety and skill, while being less about administrative stricture.

These bylaws also require referees to be paid for their time officiating at events they work.

As you're in Palo Alto, I'm sure you'll find plenty of saber to keep you busy, but the NCIFL always needs good officials, regardless of weapon of speciality.

Thanks for your note, hope to meet you this season,

Thom

Dear Mr. Cate,

I'm an alumnus of the University of Maryland Fencing Club who will be moving to Palo Alto in August. I'd love to get involved with the NCIFL; I don't know how the NCIFL hires referees for its events, but I figured that since you're league president, I'd let you know that I'm interested in offering my services. I'm certified in all three weapons and my main strength is sabre.

Thanks,
Ozzie Fallick
