The sparsely-attended meeting was a real opportunity for Santa Cruz and Davis to pass some seriously binding new bylaws to the NCIFL Code of Operations, but lacking a quorum by 1 (so close!) cooler heads prevailed.
- Discussion: relative advantages of NCIFL Google Groups email as opposed to Facebook. Does one have an advantage over the other in terms of efficiency in reaching officers in a timely and effective manner?
- Discussion on Conductive mask bib in foil. These are presently required at the World Cup, Olympic and National competition level. Sooner or later we must require them for foil in the NCIFL, but that time is not this year.
- UCSC discussed impact of hosting tournament Saturday prior to Halloween (26 October) on other fencers and fencing clubs. Comment was made re: alternative date (03 November) as being best possible, but UCSC Rec Sports officials withdrew venue after it had already been committed.
- CPSLO has cancelled the proposed Turkey Tournament for 2012; UCSC has volunteered to find a February date during which CPSLO may host an event at SC's venue. One advantage discussed was UCSC has a more central location, and CPSLO may reap benefit of more fencers at a midwinter event
- President emphasized importance of proper directing in dry foil during pools and early DEs of Novice events; UCSC assured League Reps the officials provided for the 17 November tournament at UCSC are familiar with refereeing by President and Jury.
- UCD Reps Conn and Heisler volunteered to assist UCSC with refereeing in Novice pools.
No quorum being present, no motions were presented as old business or new. Those Governing Member clubs without League Representatives present were mocked, and the various merits of saber, foil and epee, relative to each of the other two weapons, were discussed. All agreed foil is the superior weapon, with the exception of epee and saber.
Seriously people, send a freaking rep to the meeting!
Respectfully submitted
Thom Cate
President, NCIFL
Acting Secretary too, so it seems. WTF.
