Dear all,

Thank you for your attention and attendance at today's meeting--short, sweet and to the point!!

Before I proceed further, I do want to thank Jillian Chong for her service as NCIFL Vice-President, following her notification she'll be unable to continue in the office following this season's conclusion, as she is off to medical school.  I personally am grateful to Jillian for offering to step into an unfilled gap in what little administrative needs the League has.

And to that end, I am hereby opening requests for a new VP for the 2012-2013 NCIFL season. Please send me 1-2 juicy paragraphs expressing your desire and reasons to hold the office of the VP.

Finally, the office of League Secretary continues to be open.  This is an important position in the League, as this person is responsible for calculating Club Championship Points, for the League Cup.  Said championship has been suspended since 2010, and there has recently been some strong interest in reviving it, but such revival will require a detail-oriented person familiar with standard spreadsheets to track points and ultimately indicate the winner of the NCIFL Championship cup!

For those who don't know, there really is actually a cup, with a club name engraved and placed on the base and everything.  It's quite the spectacle.

OK, on to the league minutes:

Northern California Intercollegiate Fencing League

Minutes of the Spring Delegates Meeting

at

Davis, California

2012

Those attending:

NCIFL Officers

Thom Cate (Ex-UCSB), President

Jillian Chong (Ex-UCB), Vice President

Angel Weber, Recording Secretary pro-tem

Governing Member Delegates Present:

UC Santa Cruz

Taylor Crain

Samuel Swayze

California Polytechnic Institute at San Luis Obispo

Trevor Jones

UC Davis

Justin Smith

Corinne Heisler

Agenda:

  1. UCSC willing to host more tournaments

  2. UCSC expresses a want for fifteen touch direct elimination for sabre

  3. Need for a new League Vice President

  1. UCSC would like to host a second tournament each competition season

All schools need appropriate time for training new fencers

For the current schedule, March seems to be a good time for an extra tournament

No motions deemed necessary

UCSC will provide a tournament organization and a venue as appropriate

  1. Saber fifteen touch direct eliminations

The speed of pacing in Saber bouts leaves room to allow for fifteen touch Direct Elimination bouts in round of eight and above. However, while competitors in other foil and epee might want fifteen touch bouts as well, this appears an untenable prospect. Saber is known for its fast pace and while usually the last to start, often finishes before other weapons' gold medal bout.

*UCSC Motions for fifteen touch bout eliminations in round of eight

Cal Poly Seconds

Motion carries-- 3 for (UCSC, UCSC, CPSLO), 1 against (UCD), 1 abstain (UCD)

President's note: 15-touch direct eliminations for the round of 8 and above in saber will be considered experimental for the competition year 2012-2013, results and issues to be revisited at the 2013 Spring League Meeting.  Although not a motion, a show of support for "experimental status" was called for the President, with unanimous support from delegates.

  1. Selection of New Vice President

The League and the President thank Mrs. Chong for her services to the league.

The League President will send out appropriate e-mails soliciting the position of League Vice President

Meeting adjourned 8:33 AM
