See...

This is what happens when you get old....

You start to forget things....

You start to forget people....

You start to forget GT's....

You start to ramble on needlessly....

You never finish sentences....

Seriously though, I am *very* sorry I didn't make it out to the GT last
night. I have all the e-mails in my mailbox, but since I didn't check
mail for over a week, well, see above.

A special apology to Mal who organized the whole thing. I feel *really*
crappy right about now.

I hope you all had a good time. But let this be a lesson to all you
young' uns: Don't get old like me.

Alrighty, this serves a double purpose.

#1 Sandeep, I love you, sweetie, so don't worry about getting old. You're
still my favorite old geezer. :-) And there will be other GTs, and I'll
call you 43 times a day so that you don't forget. :-)

#2 See Greg, I *do* post from time to time. :-)

Malgosia.

Well, coming from a person who calls me "evil", I won't even

could spell Malgorzata E. Kaminska without making a mistake? Or actually

You probably know me as Malgosia. Anything other then Malgosia,
Malgorzata and Mal is reserved for my best friends, my cousins and my
family (which basically all fall under the category of "best friends").
But yes, you are correct, my third letter isn't an l. It's an l with a
cross, which doesn't necessarily have to be on the top. It changes the
sound of the letter. And you are also correct when you say that it isn't
part of the English alphabet. I am Polish after all.

Um.. that is, hoping that I'm pronouncing it properly, if it's pronounced
differently than it's spelled.

Well, depends. I pronounce it as it is spelled, but then again,
for me some letters and letter combinations have a different meaning then
for you. Sort of like if you gave me an unknown word in English, I would
do my best to pronounce it with the limited knowledge I have, using any of
the four languages I know to come up with something intelligible.
However, if I don't know that "ph" sounds like "f", then it will be hard
to come up with the right pronounciation. However, overall, it is
pronounced as it looks, except for the "rz" combination, which the French
would pronounce as a "j" and the English...well my brother and I have been
searching and searching and it looks like the English never use sucha
sound in their language. But don't complicate your life, go for Mal. :-)

Don't worry about it! It's not as though I ignore people who call
me that. The two kids I used to babysit still call me that and I love
them dearly nonetheless. But as a matter of preference... :-) And just
as Chris, no need to struggle. Mal is easy, simple and I like it. (Of
course, if you were to ask my mom's opinion it would be a different matter...)

Thank you, Mal.

My name is Margaret. I don't like to be called anything other than
Margaret -- that is my name, and that's what I answer to. Thank you for
supporting the right to be called by one's real name and *not* anything
else. I.e., in my case, Mag, Margie, Marg, Maggie, and especially Magrat.

So, thanks again.

BTW, I remember having a nice conversation going with you about what our
respective plans were for next year (this year) at this time last year.
Where are you now? Doing anything interesting?

> What the hell???

Paul, is that your generic response to anything that you don't
understand, or that seems strange to you? It seems that every other post
I see from you contains the words "What the hell" or "What the fuck".
Can't you at least try and be a little more erudite in your close-mindedness?
I'm making this post here in public, because I've heard from several
people that you've been asking them why *I* have changed in my attitude
towards you over the years. I'd like to say here why I feel that *you*
have changed massively over the years.
When I first met you, Paul, you were a nice person who got picked on an
awful lot because you were different. I felt sorry for you, and stood up
for you when people started making a target out of you. I *still* feel
that making fun of somebody just because they are different is incredibly
and totally wrong.
Now, however, I see you as being *more* close-minded than the people
who attack you. Your posts here, on ncf.sigs.irc (when i actually lurk
there), on carleton.students.sex, on BOBsig, all of them seem remarkably
*hostile* towards anything that you don't understand, and that doesn't fit
into your nicely ordered world.
In addition, you are *obnoxious* about it in many different ways. If
somebody that you are talking to makes it *very* obvious that they
couldn't care less about what *you* are talking about, but is too polite
to actually say anything, you keep on going indefinitely. On the other
hand, if it is something that you find uninteresting, you interrupt and
verbally attack it. While on the rudeness kick, while I personally have
never been the target of that, I've had several female friends and
acquaintances complain that when they met you and talked to you, you
fixated your gaze on their breasts and didn't move it. I don't care *how*
desperate you are, Paul, that's inexcusable. And one or two people, I
might potentially accept the argument that they didn't like you. About
ten, some of whom said this after meeting you for the first time, I don't.
Anyhow, I'm beginning to rant, so I'm going to stop now. Suffice to
say that the reason that my opinion of you has changed is that I preceive
you have changed largely, and not for the better. You have gone from
being a naive, innocent, but nice victim into a hostile, obnoxious, and
rude person who *deserves* most of what abuse he receives.
I hope that maybe this will serve as a bit of a kick, because I did
like, and somewhat miss, the Paul Derbyshire that I first knew. If you
want to discuss any of this, feel free to send me e-mail - I'd rather not
see Y-SIG spammed with this junk (in fact, i'm beginning to suspect now
that I'm done that this should have been sent by e-mail, but i started it
as a public post, so i'll finish it that way). Unless, of couse, you want
to rant about my flaws, in which case please feel free to do so in public.
:)

Many people pass on rumors about people they've never met. They are not

The people who told you this are lying. The reason they are lying is
because they are infected with the Paul-hating thing, which they got by
reading one too many lying sleazy rumors. They have apparently infected
you in their turn.
Nobody has had that happen to them. If I look for any extended time at

Yessir, Coke comes in four flavours, extra lite, lite, extra medium and

What the hell are you talking about Paul????!?!?!?!???

Now, read that over again, is that an 'open-minded' statement?
No, if I had responded:

Hmmm... My eyes lie? Don't think so Paul. Women KNOW when a guy
is gawking. We've all done it from time to time, but there's a matter of
degree. Some self-control is necessary. You seem to affix your gazes
partcularily firmly on females around you.
It is considered rude to look at women like a peice of meat. Also
unsolicited pick-up lines aren't terribly polite either. You may call
them compliments but:
"Wow, you are so beautiful and very attractive"
to someone you do *NOT* know all that well makes them uncomfortable and is
considered rude because of this.

I'm not 'spreading rumours'. What he's said is pretty much fact.

Simply not true Paul, we've all seen it. Sometimes people try to
defend you and you lash out at them, assuming it's an attack.

But of course I'm angry at everyone! It's just too difficult to
keep up this bubbly exterior! Jason! You've made me realize what a
facade my whole life has been. Ahhh...If this society wasn't so wretched!
I think it all began when I was living in Algeria and some kid destroyed

tambourines! It was a beautiful little music instrument, straight out of

Actually he's spreading lies and hate. I think my remark is actually quite
mild compared to what some people would get after seeing someone trying to
spread something about them being "obnoxious".

>> Like when? The only time I am ever rude to someone or verbally attack them

>
> While probably not TRYING to skew the truth Paul, you are nasty to

I am nasty only when someone has been nasty to me first. If someone calls
me "obnoxious" to my face they can anticipate an unfriendly response. If
someone tells lies about me in an attempt to drive away my friends, they
can expect me to do everything within my power to shut them up, possibly
including getting them thrown off NCF.

>> This is one of those stupid rumors. It is a complete fabrication. Whoever

>
> Hmmm... My eyes lie? Don't think so Paul.

I never said anything about your eyes. I am telling you your so-called
friends who told you these so-called facts were lying and are trying to
destroy my life. Don't let them succeed. Ignore them.

> Women KNOW when a guy
> is gawking. We've all done it from time to time, but there's a matter of

They are lying to you. If and when I affix my gaze to anyone it is at
their EYES.

If you persist in believing these stupid rumors, I shall have to write you
off as another one seduced by the dark side. Thereupon, you will no longer
be welcome to post here, as you are already risking spreading the
infection of hatred further right now.

Then it is too late for you. It has already infiltrated your subconscious
and infected your mind. Goodbye. You may no longer post news to this group
lest you infect anybody else.

Since it is all blatant lies, and five minutes of actually observing me
would prove them so, the only explanation for your remarks above is that
it has progressed to second stage and begun to alter your perceptions.
Once in second-stage Paul-hating after being exposed to too many lies and
rumors, you begin to perceive everything through a distorting lens, and
anything I do is subconsciously given the most hostile possible slant, even
if it's just looking at someone's eyes, or greeting someone.

> I'm not 'spreading rumours'. What he's said is pretty much fact.

He is lying and now so are you. You can't trust your perceptions anymore.
The only explanation for peoples' behavior is that it subconsciously makes
you perceive anything I do as hostile, no matter how innocent.
Go away until you are yourself again.

This is a lie also. I never lash out at anyone, except when they attack.
For exmple, if they call me names, or spread a lie, or refuse to listen to
me when I tell them that something someone told them is a lie.

> They're dead, they're all messed up.

You're all messed up now.

And I'm afraid now,for my own life and for all of YSIG. The infection has

Excuse me???

<sarcasm> Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realize you had the right to kick
people off the newsgroup. </sarcasm>

YSIG isn't here for people to post exclusively nice things about you. It
doesn't revolve around you and whatever rumors to whatever degrees of
truth they may contain about you.

If someone doesn't think highly of you, have they automatically been
corrupted? Aren't people allowed to have a bad opinion of you?

This was in my e-mail recently, and I thought it seemed relevant:

This week: Our own distinguished professor Orif Barrubgtib has discovered

Lobotomos: Is it true, Socrates, that the decaffeinated life is not
worth living?

Socrates: Not only is it true, Lobotomos, but upon careful reflection it is
patent. For is not reason the foundation of virtue?

Lobotomos: Certainly, Socrates.

Socrates: And without virtue, there would be no reason.

Lobotomos: Of course, Socrates.

Socrates: And reason requires wakefulness.

Lobotomos: No one could possibly deny it, Socrates.

Socrates: And it is quite impossible to be truly awake on a Monday morning
without caffeine.

Lobotomos: How truly you speak, Socrates.

Socrates: Thus virtue ergo reason needs wakefulness via caffeine. Q.E.D.

Lobotomos: I see now that must certainly be the case, Socrates.

The triumph of logic again. :)

The licorice worship is in fact a diversion from his *true* obsession...
That of the little round pink or blue sprinkle covered jelly rounds that
you get in bags of Licorice Allsorts. They override even Pringles, and I
have come to suspect that, were a choice to be forced, he would relinquish
even Doritos for them... A ssad fate indeed for a hi preest of Bob.

Ick, once again, class in 51 minutes.... :) You're in Engineering?

Don't remind me. :)

No, dear. Just a horribly misguided one. *pats on head* :)

Love and coffee,
Frances

Oh? :-( And I had placed such strong hopes in his
Bobbish-priesthood...:-)

Engineering and Science. I'm taking the Biotech/Chemical
Engineering program, therefore striving for my B.Sc. Biochem and B.A.Sc. CHG

From what I heard there has been lots of problems this year.
Makes me feel glad I gave up my single room and get to go home every
night. :-)

Glad to hear that there is still hope for me! :-)
