Jim and others defend the statue with arguments that only serve to
accentuate bias and, indeed, demonstrate condemnation of a particular gender.
Fact: Both women and men are victims if violence. Men more often than women
Fact: Children are also victims of violence, at the hands of women as
often, if not more often, than at the hands of men.
Fact: The statue identifies only female victims and identifies the
perpetrators generically as "men".
This is wrong.
Jim argues that he doesn't feel the guilt when "men" are referred to,
generically, as the murderers. Why does this matter? I, too, feel no
guilt, as I have not committed murder. However, I do see the wrong of
referring to a group generically. My concern is that those who read the
inscription will, sub-consciously or otherwise, have a generic
group etched in their mind as the perpetrators.
Jim argues that he has no problem with other statues being erected.
Really? And would they get his full endorsement? If not, why not?
Would Jim visit a statue dedicated to children "killed by women"? If not,
why not? Would he visit a statue dedicated to men killed by their wives or
girlfriends? If not, why not?
The fact of the matter is that these "other statues" will not be built.
They will not be built because there is no backing by special interest
groups - the special interest groups that focus on a) the victimhood of those
with whom they can identify with, and b) suggesting an inherent evil of those
with whom they can't identify.
The headlines are full of items lately that clearly show that women are
very capable of violence. Decapitations aside, children are being abused and
men are being killed more and more. Female-on-female violence is growing
rapidly amongst young girls. Yet where are the cries? Where are the
statues for these victims?
If we need a statue at all, let it be dedicated to all victims of
violence. If we need to lay blame, let it not be against a generic group,
such as "men", for only a small minority of men are violent, and not all
acts of violence are committed by men.
The Minto Park statue is political, and in the most deceitful, insidious
way. It should be removed immediately.

" Your reason and your passion are the rudder and the sails of your

and passion, unattended, is a flame that burns to its own destruction."
Your comments are both lucid and logical Kevin. Having been raped
by a man is bound to affect Jim's thinking and I try hard to
emphasize with his point of view.
However since my dear departed school principal mum was far more
violent than my comparatively mild dad, it ios very difficult.
Wanna borrow my fifty pound sledge hammer ? :) :)

Well said. And let me add, Christmas good cheer
aside, that the leadership of this city and this
nation has been nothing short of insane for too
long. Democracy is in such a farcical state that
we have to wait silently for evil creeps to retire.
Forget ever getting rid of them before they do
whatever demented damage they damn well desire.
