2. Bagg St. Klezmer Band: "Russian Folk Medley" from "Go Meshuggah!"
Indie c
3. Fegat Sejdic: "Folk Dance From Guca" from "Guardian Angel & Lost Lamb"
Jugoton
4. Ruino Vino: "Fair Kop" from "Marai" Rufus
5. Moshe Leiser, Ami Flammer & Gerard Barrreaux: "Avreml" from "Chansons
Yiddish, Tendresses et Rage" Ocora
6-7. Quartango: "Androgyne" & "Por una Cabeza" from "Compadres" Justin
Time c nr
-A brand new album from this great Montreal ensemble. More originals
than their first Justin Time album with a healthy dose of classics from
Piazzolla, Gardel etc. "Androgyne" is a beautiful original that plays
with the idea of a tango. It is in a waltz rhythm, yet it sounds like a
tango. Their playfulness also shows in several references to Mozart in
Gardel's "Por una Cabeza"
8. Cheikh Lo: "Set" from "Ne la Thiass" Nonesuch/World Circuit
9. V/A: "Voices & Drums" from "Garifuna" Earthnoise
-A great album from this tiny label from Toronto. Tiny, yet very
high quality--performers, recording, booklet. A location recording made
in Western Guatemala.
10. Los Pleneros de la 21: "Traigo un Coco" from "Tropical" Latitudes
11. Los Cantores de la Huasteca: "Las Poblanitas" from "El Caiman" Corason
12. Yaru Malari: "Two Qalandari" from "The Mystic Fiddle of the
Proto-Gypsies" Shanachie nr
13. Marikeba Kouyate: "Ali Duwa" from "Music of Senegal" Traditional
Crossroads nr
14. Nikolai Medtner: "Canzon Serenata in f minor Op. 38 no. 6" performed
by Nikolai Demidenko Hyperion

15-16. Mohamed Mossavi: "two pieces" from "Houmayoun" Shahram
17. Massel Klezmorim: "Die Kale Bajetzn" from "Best of Yiddish Songs &
Klezmer Music" ARC
18. Krystof Penderecki: "Threnos to the victims of Hiroshima" performed by
the Warsaw National Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Witold
Rowicki Philips
19. Johann Sebastien Bach: "Agnus Dei from the Mass in b minor BWV 232"
performed by the Munchener Bach choir & orchestra, conducted by Karl
Richter with Hertha Topper Archiv
-The last three pieces form a very powerful set. "Die Kale Bajetzn"
is played on an unaccompanied klezmer and shows the depth of sorrow and
suffering Klezmer is capable of. It makes an excellent prelude to
"Threnos to the victims of Hiroshima", which is horror and pain
personified in music. An exquisite piece. The "Agnus Dei" from Bach's
mass (which competes with only one other piece for the summit of my
musical universe), is an extraordinary and sublime prayer for piece and
release from suffering. A very suitable conclusion to this set.

20-21. Karol Stoch Band: "Piesu Zbojnicko" & "Krolowa Tetr" from "Fire in
the Mountain" Yazoo nr
22. Peter Chaisson Jr.: "Mr.Murray/The Miller O'Drone/The Duoky Meadow/The
Yelts of Mackavy/Miss Cyall Reel/Picnic Reel/Little Donald in the Pigpen"
from "The P.E.I. Style of Fiddling" Rounder c nr
23. Atwood O'Conner: "Melly Grey" from "The P.E.I. Style of Fiddling"
Rounder c nr

24. Erin Cassidy: "Kahir's Kitchen" from "The Wind at Play" Carleton Sound
c nr
25-27. Simfonye: "Estampe Royal no. 6 & no. 4," "Donna, pos vos ay
chausida" Hyperion
