Following complaints from Adam Price MP and others, the Wales Audit
Office has launched an investigation into the county's Planning
Department (see this week's Carmarthen Journal).

Although planning is always going to be a controversial subject and
the planning officers' job is no doubt not an easy one,
Carmarthenshire seems to have developed a knack of backing large and
highly controversial schemes against the wishes of local communities,
and there is a widespread feeling that they all too often they side
with the developers and the big guns against local people.

Let's hope that the investigation leads to some big changes in the way
they go about doing things.

Please remember that if you are going to comment on this piece that
these pages are public. The County Council has already funded at least
one court case for libel brought by the head of planning, Eifion
Bowen. You have been warned!
