To: Peter Lewis (Mayor)
cc: Newcastle Emlyn town councillors.

Dear Mr Mayor
Thankyou again for standing up for the town at the recent council
meeting.

There are many reasonss to object to this application. In particular
the
Retail Impact which, as you heard, is even worse than was previously
thought. I attach a brief, mainly written by Barry, on this topic
which I
hope clarifies the issues.

The killer point is that, by the figures provided by the County
Council's
own consultants, the new store is projected to
gross £12.7m per year, which is more than the rest of the town put
together.
And £5.9m of this will be lost from local food shops - including CKs,
Somerfield and Spar - let alone the smaller shops in the high street.
This
is at least 50% of their business (more according to Barry), a hit
that few
shops could survive. (See the bullet point at the foot of the first
page).

I'm sure you realise that an impact like this would transform the
whole
town, which at the moment has not one charity shop or boarded up
window in
the "high" street -some sort of record I imagine.

I hope you will continue to oppose the application and stand up for
the town
again at the next county planning meeting.

Yours sincerely
Tim Swann

A small point, Tim, but there is a charity shop - it's on the right as you head down College Street.
