Dear Member,

ADVICE TO BE WARY OF AN APPARENT INTERNATIONAL SCAM

It has come to light that operators of a so called ‘Expo Guide’
Magazine in an overseas country has deceived Sri Lankan companies
either participating or proposing to participate in international
events, especially Trade fairs, into placing company details on a free
listing basis to promote business.

However, the reality has been that insertion is not on free listing
basis, because payment is demanded later citing a clause in the
agreement which is in small print. Those who have signed the relevant
documents have been threatened with legal action by a so called
International Credit Assessment Agency located in Cyprus.

Two member companies of the NCE have already had bad experiences in
relation to this racket.

Members are therefore cautioned to advise officials in their
respective companies when downloading such offers from websites and
responding to them in writing without clearly examining the
implications of all clauses especially in small print.

With kind regards,

L S G Tillekeratne
