APPOINTMENT OF A PRIVATE SECTOR TRADE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE NCE IN THE
SOUTH AFRICAN MARKET

• The Chamber is pleased to inform all member companies that the
Council of the Chamber decided recently to appoint suitable private
sector Trade Representatives of the Chamber in important markets to
facilitate and support trade promotion activities of member companies
in the respective markets.

• The Council further decided that selected Trade Representatives
preferably from among the Sri Lankan expatriate community in such
markets should have business experience and contacts, with competence
and skills for trade promotion, to promote exports from member
companies of the Chamber.

• In terms of the above decision the Chamber interviewed and selected
Mr Sanjeewa Abayaratne, a Sri Lankan who is residing in South Africa
and who has wide experience and competence, as well as contacts in the
South African market.

• The Chamber has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
with Mr Abeyaratne in regard to the procedure to be followed in
promoting business activities of member companies in the South African
market and also the basis on which he could represent member companies
as their Agent, as well as undertake specific assignments on behalf of
member companies. Accordingly, member companies are free to negotiate
with Mr Abeyaratne specific terms on which he would undertake business
promotion activities on their behalf.

• However, in terms of the MOU mentioned above, all requests made to
Mr Abayaratne by member companies should be channeled through the
Chamber. As such, members are kindly requested to adhere to this
procedure in dealing with the Trade Representative.

The Chamber is also in the process of selecting similar Trade
Representatives in other important markets and shall keep member
companies informed as and when they are made in due course.
