Dalits-Adivasi land struggle of Chengara
Chengara is village around 20 km from Pattanamthitta, a District HQs in Kerala state of India Where around 3580 Dalit and Adivasi Families have pitched in their Tents as part of their continuous demand for land, in the Rubber Plantation Estates owned by Harrison Malayalam, a private Company which lease period is at the edge getting completion. Harrison Malayalam holds thousands of hectares of land in various hills of Kerla and developed Tea and Rubber Plantation. (Read More)
Appeal
In India after 60 years of independent, Dalits and Adivasis are vulnerable and have no access to their basic rights. Violation of their Human Rights is a regular event in India. The above case is an example of ongoing atrocities and Discrimination on Dalits from centuries. It also shows the insensitivity and lethargy of the state. The criminal justice administrative system and Land Reform policies are still ineffective.
